As part of large scientific conference I organized at Berkeley in late May of 2010, I also arranged a reunion dinner at Le Bateau Ivre for roughly 60 of the conference participants. In short, the owner, chef, and wait-staff of the restaurant did a superb job. The owner, Arlene, was very flexible and patient with my numerous last-minute requests, including increasing the guest list by 10 just a couple of days before the dinner and asking to set up a projector and screen just an hour or so in advance. WhenI met with the chef to set the menu, and he offered numerous options and suggestions. The guests all spoke very highly of the food, which included cornish game hens, mushroom ravioli, NY strip, and baked salmon. Finally, I note that the staff were extremely attentive to all our guests, not to mention patient to work around the projector I set up in the middle of the main room! The evening at Le Bateau Ivre was the highlight of the conference for everyone in attendance. I highly recommend this lovely and intimate restaurant both for its food and for its service.

I love this beautiful oasis on Fourth Street. I eat lunch on the patio with my dog Houghton. The soba is great. The best value on the menu is the bento box which is a fabulous food-to-go box for $7.50.

Service can sometimes be spotty but not usually. The dry rub is fantastic (do not expect web BBQ, this is the dry rub). You can add your own flavored BBQ (mild tangy sweet and a mix of horseradish and spicy - a hint of habanero). The burger is great. The food portions are large that account for my never making it to dessert. Their brisket is fair to very good. Bo's has a better brisket (but that is it). The noise level is a bit high during the winter months, but it dissipates when the top floor windows are open. These people are in the restaurant business and they will take care of your (BBQ) needs. You want something sloppy a different style of BBQ (Gorillas’'). Try T-Rex you will not be dissatisfied. To prove the point, a friend was taking out his boss to birthday lunch and I told him that I just came back from T-Rex, he replied, "you should have told me and I would have dumped the boss!"

Did you ever think your children would go hungry at a restaurant that sells entrees for $24-$33? Go to the Bay Grille at the DoubleTree Hotel at the Berkeley, CA Marina and they will. My family and I arrived there with friends with a total party of 9 to eat and celebrate the July 4th holiday. We arrived at 6:30pm and they told us the wait would be 20-40 minutes. They seated us at 7:40 pm. After repeated attempts to get menus, we were given one menu along with bread and water about an hour later, I approached the manager and I told her we had been waiting for almost 2 hours to order. Her response: ""Well, just tell me where you're sitting and we'll take care of it."" The right words - said with an attitude of ""Well, I know I have to say this, but I really don't give a $%^*"" She took our order 15 minutes later. And after seeing all the people who were also left waiting for hours, we took our children, who were all complaining of hunger, away from that place -- 3 hours after we had arrived for meals we never received.

This is a great spot with awesome seating inside and outside, great food, and friendly faces! The pancakes, omelets, coffee and tea are all delicious and a lot of the ingredients are organic. The internet is free, just be sure to support them with a some business, the food is all worth it! On a sunny day the back patio is great for you and your dog! My boyfriend and I enjoy this cafe almost daily!
