Even though durango is the latest victim of the invasion of trendy, over-priced, hot spot real estate, it is ""somewhat"" trying to hold on to some of it's identity- for now anyway. If you want a genuine diner experience, then this no-frills, hole in the wall spot is it. Recently- my companion & I just wanted to go where locals eat & get out of town, so we learned of one of durango's oldest dining institutions- The Durango Diner. We have been to alot of ""So-called"" diners across america, but this is the real deal. Cheap & good to eat (especially breakfast) tip: don't sit behind the cook- you will sweat & roast from the heat of the stove/ovens & this is still in the cool of the spring.

Long time locals, Todd, Lisa and Grant Gibson have been part of the Durango community for 22 years. As Bayfield residents, Todd spent many years as a volunteer firefighter, including fighting the Missionary Ridge fires. Lisa's passion for entertaining led to the family's purchase of Farquarhts in 2008. Starting as Derailed Saloon and then transitioning over the last 7 years into a warm & welcoming Speak Easy style venue, that has become the "The Pour House". Lisa and Todd have worked whole heartedly to maintain a clean, safe, friendly, fun and affordable atmosphere in a warm and welcoming environment, which creates not just a night out on the town but a true Durango experience. Lisa knows and states that "she is only as good as her people" which is evident by her appreciation of her staff and customers. She embraces all that it takes to have a place where anyone can go, alone or with a group, and feel that they belong. The Pour House caters to all your needs. Projection screens and a sound system make this spot an ideal location for fundraising and other professional events. Scratch-made food prepared daily using locally grown, seasonal ingredients, craft martinis and cocktails, 14 draft beers and an affordable wine list only adds to the versatility of this bar. A grand mahogany bar from 1890s Silverton, a wood burning fireplace, open-air windows, 6 large HD TVs and 3 big screens creates the perfect environment to enjoy our large variety of appetizers and shared plates. Local and traveling musicians and a dueling piano bar only add to the Speak Easy feel of this local bar & restaurant that you can call your own. Come on in to experience this one of a kind place in the heart of Durango. Don't miss our dueling piano events on select Friday & Saturday nights! Music starts at 8:30pm.

Chimayo Stone Fired Kitchen is a contemporary American bistro with a southwestern flair. Fresh salads, creative small plates, artisanal pizzas, and fire-roasted steaks, chicken and seafood are prepared in twin 600+ degree stone hearth ovens in an open kitchen. The Owners have restored the interior of the historic Century Building on Main Avenue, revealing turn-of-the century Carnegie steel support beams, the original maple hardwood floor and decorative tin ceiling tiles, and the original brick wall. These historical elements, along with the expo kitchen, rollup windows, and 35-foot curved bar, create an urban industrial loft setting for a unique Durango dining experience.
15.Home Slice Pizza
441 E College Dr
Forged in the searing heat of the missionary ridge fire of 2002, Homeslice Pizza was the brainchild of Childhood prodigy pizza eater, and genius entrepreneur Cory Kitch, his world renown chef brother Gabe Kitch, and super model, financial sorceress and nutrition expert ( most supermodels are nutrition experts) Lynn Kitch. Fixated since childhood on solving the world's problems, Cory found himself at a crossroads in 2002. Which problem to tackle first; global warming, energy, the chronic poor decision making of Hollywood idols? No, He knew he needed to start BIG...REAL BIG. That's when it hit him... And starting with a monumental gesture he ended a war. A war that no one thought would ever end. No, not the middle east thingy. The battle over who had the best pizza; New York or Chicago. He figured that, like trickle-down economics, if this war (perhaps the greatest of our time) could come to a peaceful resolution, then the rest of the wars, squabbles, disagreements, and altercations would simply realize their triviality. This realization would then lead to less global conflict bringing with it a sharp decline in fossil fuel consumption, which in turn would decrease carbon emissions, simultaneously ending the energy crisis and global warming. As for the Hollywood idiots (oops, idols) he would have to solve that problem later.

I generally enjoy posting reviews of awesome places I’ve had the enjoyment of visiting BUT today I have to post a review on a place that wasn’t up to speed on it’s service to it’s customers. We entered the pub and a sign said “Please seat yourself” which we did, we sat in a section against the street that was quiet and enjoyable. And we sat there, and sat, and sat and sat. Fifteen to twenty minutes later I went down to the bar and asked where we could place an order. (the menus were on the tables and we previewed them of course, by this time we knew what we wanted to order.) I was thinking at this point that this was an establishment that you went up to the bar to order as no waitress had come up too us despite there being 5(?) different waitress/staff visible on duty . I was then informed that a waitress would be right up to us, so I went back up to the table and then a waitress came up and told us that we had to move because this area was reserved. (no, it wasn’t marked off) We got up and went to where we were more or less directed (right in the sun with no shade) and we again waited, and waited and waited. After about ten to fifteen minutes we gave up. No one appeared to take our order and no one seemed inclined to want too. We left and went elsewhere. I’ve been told that this place has good food but I can’t attest to that, but be careful if you go to this pub, you might not get any service. Oh and when I said something, it was obvious that management (or whoever it was I spoke with) could care less.
