SHOP LOCAL SMALL BUSINESSES!!! I went into Woodstock’s Furniture store on the recommendation of a friend to look for a new dining room set. As the owner and I were looking at and discussing my expectations of dining room furniture, I told him my internet horror story … I made a huge mistake trying to save money by buying furniture off the internet! What a nightmare, my reclining sofa had a defective lever on the left side. I had only had it a few weeks when it broke. Not very happy, I called the internet company so I could get a replacement. I was told I would have to take warranty issues DIRECTLY to manufacturer. They had my money, I signed off on the delivery and their part in my purchase was over. Did I mention the driver unloaded it in my drive way, I had to un-box and inspect myself while the driver watched without offering to help me, so I had to do a quick inspection to sign his paper work. I ended up paying a local handyman to come and assemble the rocker recliner (came in two pieces) and put the feet on my sofa. I am a single woman, an up there in years so the job was too big for me. Ok, so I contact manufacturer and they gave me my options A: they would ship me a new mechanism that I would have to replace MYSELF! I would have to pay shipping and handling costs and pay someone to come and install it as I would not be able to do that myself. B: I had to ship the sofa back, and they WOULD send me a new one; HOWEVER I was responsible for all shipping costs as I did not report the defect to the delivery driver. How could I have reported this defect at time of delivery? This would have cost me around $800 not to mention I had to pack the thing back up for shipping :( Now fuming, I then called the internet company back asking to return the entire purchase for a full refund. Again the customer service rep explains that it specifies (in the fine print), no refunds after product has been unpackaged and assembled. The first thing on the site that popped up was hassle free returns if for any reason you are not satisfied with your purchase, you can return for a full refund, hey sounds good right?… back to fine print … can't return anything after it's remove from original packaging... think about that! Well, turns out, he is a dealer for that manufacturer, so he called on my behalf and within 10 days, he delivered to me a new sofa (which by the way he did not make a dime on) AND my new beautiful dining room set I purchased from him. There is a good reason for a "middle man" he took all the headaches out of buying new furniture for my home. He took on all the responsibilities to insure that what I ordered was delivered to me on the day and time I asked for without hassle. Woodstock’s Furniture Store was very competitive on their prices, (I asked how much I would have paid for the sofa and recliner if I had bought from him and was surprised how close it was to what I paid on the internet), I felt rather silly for going through all the internet issues, when I could have and should have just bought locally for a little bit more money but a whole lot more satisfaction. The whole experience, from beginning to end was easy breezy, the delivery went flawlessly and I didn’t have to do a thing but point to where I wanted it.
