My friend and I went into this credit union to cash her payroll checks. We were unaware that she needed her account number as she had just joined a credit union. And before receiving her account number the staff member stamped the back of her check. When my friend stated she didn't have her account number she was turned away and we had to find somewhere else to cash the checks. Every place we went to said the same thing, they cannot cash the checks with the stamp on the back and that we should return to the place that issued the stamp to cash them. When we returned the customer service was terrible. When we stated our issue the cashier laughed and said there was nothing she could do. Her condescending attitude is what ultimately lead to this review. I recommend against going to this credit union for any reason as it will only lead to frustration and annoyance due to the staffs attitude and lack of knowledge.

My Advice: Look elsewhere, there are a lot of much better banks out there. Evergreen will screw you in any way they can and frustrate you to no avail.

The list of reasons is extensive as to why I will never recommend this bank as well as will never utilize them for anything myself ever again. Here is the short list:

1. Their online banking is antiquated, at best. Example:It does not allow for simple transfers between accounts unless you are mobile.

2. Unknowledgeable staff and managers, and even worse the management truly doesn't understand their own online banking system. Example:Branch Manager claims their accounts can not overdraft from checking to checking, but mine does.

3. They charge fees for EVERYTHING. Even things that are not the customers fault (like their antiquated system not functioning properly). Having fees reversed is difficult and an argument each time, even when you prove it was their error.

4. SubPar Customer Service

Car loan

I was assisted by Linda Parker at the Windham branch. She was a professional all the way through the loan process. She is efficient and knowledgeable. I am so thankful for her help in getting this car loan. Sincerely Carole Dighello

I had to call the Windham branch for help with my online banking. I couldn't get my computer and my phone to work together with my account. I did not know that both items needed to have the same password. Since I had the computer first then added the phone much later, my passwords were different.

They couldn't help me anymore than what they did. After all that she had done, we hung up. I tried my phone again it just would not work. I called them back and told them that it worked on the computer but not on my phone.

Again the woman did her magic and got it working. I am so happy she was patient and took the time that I needed. I am in the hospital many time a month and I need to have both lines working properly.

Thanks to the great workers at Evergreen it is one less item that I need to stress about. Thank you for all the years of great service that you have given me. I would never think to go anyplace else. I wish I could give you more than 5 stars!

Spoke to Patty this morning. I gave a check to a lawyer postdated and he cashed it 5 days early. Evergreen charged a 29 dollar overdraft fee because I wasn't expecting it to go in until the date on the check. Patty coldly and efficiently shot down my request for a refund of the NSF fee, and in the spirit from which she shared with me, I share this with you. It's not their problem if their tellers honor a check that is not supposed to be cashed. Evergreen account holder Buyer beware as always.

Last month Paypal withdrew 5 dollars 5-6 times, and they didn't have right to take it from my savings account. They were supposed to take it from checking where I keep a balance. They admitted they didn't have the right, and apologized. Evergreen Credit Union had charged me 30 dollars for each 5 dollar bounced check. When I called Windham, they told me I had to get something from Paypal that admitted that they were at fault. As luck would have it, I knew they would want proof, so I got them on a three way conversation with Paypal, and the rep apologized and took responsibility. Evergreen said it was not sufficient, so I had the Paypal rep email his contact information, and he again took responsibility. This was again not satisfactory to Evergreen Credit Union.

They demanded that I get a letter from Paypal on their letterhead, and would not budge until did so. I was going to be out almost 200 dollars in bounced check fees because of some woman with a power issue, or simply someone without the intelligence to give good customer service.

I had a friend call someone he knew in the bank and ask that he take care of it. I was about to file a complaint with the Bureau of Banking, but he didn't know that. He did reverse the bounced check fees. He is a decent guy, but whoever makes the decisions at Evergreen Credit Union in Windham that causes so much stress and strife should be replaced, or the bank policy needs to be adjusted to reality. Who wants to spend hours on something so simple. Jerks. I will write each time they do something good, or bad. We will see how the chips fall. So far, the verdict is go back to high school, and take "How to Run a Bank" business classes. Until then, buyer beware.
