A friend suggested Dr. Magur. I read his bio and was quite happily surprised to see the following: “His approach to foot and ankle care is to evaluate the injury or condition, assess the patient’s lifestyle and recommend appropriate treatment measures. When feasible, he recommends nonoperative measures such as medication, therapy, shoewear modifications and orthotics. Surgical discussions are generally reserved for conditions that fail to respond to appropriate conservative management.” That is EXACTLY what I was looking for – someone who would do everything possible BEFORE trying surgery. I had read enough about Jones fractures to know that many of them do mend on their own if the foot is not walked on for 6-8 weeks and adjunct therapy such as electrical bone stimulation or ultrasound pulsing is used. Both of those can be done at home by the patient once a day. To me, the wait was worth it to not undergo surgery.

I made an appointment with Dr. Starr at the end of October. A CT scan was ordered and at a follow up visit, Dr. Starr recommended surgery at the earliest possible date. The advanced spinal stenosis had been confirmed with concurrent severe lumbar scoliosis.

Orthopedics
The orthobiologic initiative is centered on a reparative or regenerative approach to your orthopedic problem. This approach uses one’s capacity for healing to help in the treatment of your orthopedic injury. Included in these treatments include plasma rich platelet (PRP) therapy and stem cell treatment. These biologic substances when utilized can assist in promoting the healing process. Additionally, they can potentially act slow joint breakdown and decrease symptoms in the arthritic joint. While a clear scientific consensus with these approaches is still being formulated, this area of regenerative medicine has great potential in orthopedic application in lieu of, or in addition to, a surgical approach. Post-operative: Patients are seen in the office shortly after being discharged to receive wound care, pain management, and to establish a post-operative plan of care. Robotic surgery allows the surgeon to improve the accuracy of the device whether it is a total knee replacement or partial. The robotic systems give the surgeon real time feedback on the position of the implant in the knee as well as the performance of the knee implant. The robotic systems allow the surgeon to collect information before the implants are placed and guide the surgeon in the precise location of the implant as well as the soft tissue balance of the knee. These attributes are vital to overall function and longevity of the implant.

Supination occurs when you have high arches that do not flatten. Your foot stays rigid and does not roll in as it is supposed to, causing less shock absorption. This can result in ankle sprains, Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, and IT band syndrome. To check if you supinate, check your running shoes-they will be worn out along the outside edges.
