I heard about Jim's Home Auto Service through a good friend who recently moved out of state. I had always taken my vehicles to a dealership but after several visits became suspicious that some of the work mentioned wasn't needed since I had just completed the same repairs eight months ago. Slow learner that I am, I went back to the dealership when my Advance Braking Light came on indicating that it needed to be replaced and recalibrated. That same dealership told me they couldn't work on my vehicle for that service, so I left and started my search. That was when my friend recommended Jim's. The diagnostic test required to validate the problem usually costs $169.00. Jim did the diagnostic test and confirmed the problem, but was not able to recalibrate the module because of the necessary equipment needed. He recommended I go to another dealership. I was aware of the cost and asked, what did I owe him for his work? He said, "You owe nothing. I don't charge if I don't do the work." I went to another dealership and paid for the diagnostic test and some other minor work. The module was unavailable and would have to be placed on order. It would take several months and guess what, it's been over six months. Jim's Auto Service couldn't do the work, but they have my business for life. That includes my daughter's family. I place integrity above all else and he has it in spades.

My family has been going to Jim's for about 20 years now.
They always get our vehicles going right and don't do us wrong in the process.

On not giving price quotes over the phone, they seem prefer to know the entire problem with the exact fix. You may be able to get a price guess over the phone from other places, but these guys aren't ones for guess work.

In addition, I have never seen these gentlemen act unprofessionally, again, in 20 years and two generations of family members going to them for service.

Overall
Not very helpful at all

The first reviewer is correct, this shop is not very helpful. Asked for a quote on a problem I was having with my car and was just told to "bring it in" and they weren't able to tell me any more than that. I hung up, called Fresh Appearnce Auto and not only was this shop more friendly on the phone, he diagnosed my problem right then and there. Sorry Jim, need to work on your cusomter interaction skills.

Overall
Terrible

I have never been treated with such disrespect then I just was by a man at Jim's Home Auto II on Lynnhaven Rd. The man at the desk had the worst customer service skills I have ever encountered. He was rude while answering my questions.. had smart alic remarks and I will NEVER ever go back there again. I suggest that you don't either. Awful service. They are going to keep losing customers unless they make a change... starting with the service member they have working the desk.
