This was the worst experience EVER! Our custom ring took 6 months to complete and is not correct. Customer service is worthless. Please see my Yelp! review for in depth details!

During a recent inspection of ...

During a recent inspection of my fiance's engagement ring, it was discovered that there was a small chip on the side of the diamond. This chip is not noticeable to the naked eye. First of all, I was disappointed in the fact that her diamond had a chip in it and she has only worn it for a year, not to mention we are not even married yet and I still have payments left on an 11K ring. But, that is not my biggest concern/complaint. My issue was with the overall general lack of concern and compassion shown by both the store and customer service because we were two months past inspection. Apparently this null and voids EVERYTHING that Jared offers as a guarantee! They do not explain that to you when you overpay for their diamonds. They do everything they can to make you feel like you will be taken care of for all of your years. Well, that is completely false!

Their initial answer was to buy a new diamond at retail ($7700) to replace the old one. After some arguing with the store, they were willing to sell it to me at cost ($5400). Now, that right there shows you the markup that they place on diamonds. Had I been armed with this information at the time of purchase, I would have actually tried to haggle, but hindsight is 20/20. Anyway, what they did not understand was that I had no intention of purchasing a new diamond! Even though I continued to repeat myself, they offered no alternatives. I called customer service and the first person I spoke with could care less about my issue. After fighting to get a supervisor on the phone, I was able to find some compassion, but no alternative.

Their main reasoning for not assisting in the matter was due to the fact that I violated the warranty by coming in two months late. Basically, because I was two months late and they discovered a chip, the diamond was no longer warrantied from there on out...against ANYTHING! Interestingly, I actually had an assistant manager at the store inform me that a Jared warranty is like insurance, if you do not pay the insurance, you are not covered. Seriously?!?!? A warranty is called a warranty for a reason. Insurance is insurance, for a reason. They are NOT the same! One is paid for up front (built into cost) and a customer often purchases a product of such magnitude based on a company's willingness to stand behind their product. Insurance is paid to a second-party, often monthly and often with a deductible. My warranty on my GMC expired after 36,000 miles. I took it in at 50,000 miles because the fuel pump was shot. Although my warranty had expired, GMC still replaced the fuel pump at no cost to me because they did not feel that the fuel pump should have failed so soon. I never asked, they just said that is what they were going to do. That's customer care! I is not like I am talking about a $200 necklace here or a Pandora bracelet. It is an engagement that cost me 5 figures!

Anyway, there is much more to this story, to include customer service placing the burden on the store and the store placing the burden on customer service. But ultimately, what I came away with was that Jared could care less about their customers and it is all about the bottom dollar. I will never shop at a chain jewelery store again and I am going to tell my story to every social network site I can find in the hope that people do not spend their hard earned money on Jared's over-priced merchandise, weak warranty and uncaring staff.

If you live in the Ashburn/Sterling/Leesburg area, there are several established mom and pop jewelers in downtown Leesburg that can attend to your needs

When I purchased my Omega watch at Jared the salesperson was quick point out that a quality high end timepiece like the Omega comes with a lifetime battery replacement program (which I ended up having to pay for). What the salesperson didn't mention is that Jared Jeweler's does not service Omega watch batteries (as other jewelers do) and that they would need to send my watch "back to the factory for 2-3 months" to replace the battery. This is absolutely absurd, no reasonable person is going to purchase a watch, car, refrigerator, toilet or any other merchandise knowing that the item (watch, car, etc,) would be unusable 10% - 25% of the time because normal maintenance requires it to be in the shop to have the battery replaced. I insisted to the store manager that I had been tricked and scammed by the unethical sales practices and would like to replace my $2,300.00 Omega with a normal watch of equal value that I could use 99.99% of the time. He refused and referred me to another local jeweler that could replace Omega watch batteries in 2-3 days, but it would cost me $65.00 even though I paid extra for the lifetime free battery replacement to Jared. Disreputable and dishonest companies like Jared never succeed.
