Behavioral Counseling
Horses need regular preventive dental maintenance every six months to one year. Unlike people, horses' teeth have an eruption rate of two-three mm per year. The teeth should wear in correspondence to yearly eruption rate. Malocclusions, or improper position of the teeth, can lead to many health issues and behavioral problems.
Nutritional Counseling
Dental abnormalities are corrected to prevent problems that can arise such as colic, anorexia, weight loss, head tossing,quidding (dropping food while chewing), decreased performance, excess salivation, undigested food particles in the manure, fighting the bit, resisting the bridle, tongue lolling, bit chewing, foul smelling nasal discharge, blood tinged saliva, bucking or failing to stop or turn.

Geriatric care- Aged horses can have sub-clinical health care issues that can be identified and treated before they become a problem. If your horse is over 15 years of age we recommend a complete physical examination and blood testing to establish baseline values.

Talk to your veterinarian before doing a fecal analysis to be sure enough time has passed since your horse's last deworming for eggs to have reappeared in the feces. This Egg Reappearance Period differs depending on the dewormer used.

Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy(PRP) - platelet-rich plasma gel when applied to an injury site delivers a high concentration of growth factors that accelerate tissue regeneration and healing. It is indicated when faster healing, increased wound strength, pain relief and reduced scarring of injured area is desired. PRP has been successfully used to treat equine corneal ulcers, acute skin wounds, tendon and ligament injuries.

Arthritis Treatment
Stem cell therapy - regenerative medicine uses a concentrated form of autologous adipose-derived adult stem cells to treat traumatic and degenerative diseases, including bowed tendons, ligament injuries, osteoarthritis, and osteochondral defects in horses.
Hip Dysplasia Treatment
Borrelia burgdoferi, the clinical signs include rash, flu-like symptoms, joint pain, and rarely arrythmias of the heart and neurologic disease. Dogs usually present with high fevers, joint pain and swelling, and in some breeds, glomerulonephritis, a disease of the kidneys. The disease in horses is much more nebulous and controversial than it is in dogs and humans. Researchers debate whether or not horses develop clinical signs of Lyme disease. However, it has been shown that horses do become infected with the organism and that the infection can be transmitted to and from them. It is the opinion of the doctors in this practice that some horses do develop clinical signs when they are infected with the Lyme spirochete.

Standing or recumbent surgery of the horse is performed for castration, biopsy and laceration repair. More complicated procedures may be referred to a specialist. When referral is required, we work with the surgeon and hospital both in planning the referral and in the aftercare and follow-up.

Pre-purchase examinations- An extensive physical examination, lameness evaluation, neurologic examination, and drug screen is offered by us prior to purchasing a horse. The information gathered is used by the prospective buyer and/or agent to determine whether the horse will be servicable for it's intended use. The exam often includes laboratory testing, digital radiographs, endoscopy, and ultrasound exams.

We provide reliable routine and emergency veterinary care and consultations. The practice is equipped with modern, up to date equipment such as digital radiography, digital ultrasound, endoscopy, shock wave therapy, tonometry, and Class IV laser therapy.
