Corticosteroids (most often triamcinolone or methylprednisolone) are frequently injected directly into the joint, and act as a strong anti-inflammatory agents to reduce pain and stiffness. When there is accumulation of fluid in a joint, drainage of this fluid can also provide considerable relief of pain. Conditions often treated with joint injections include Bursitis, Tendonitis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Gout, Osteoarthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis. For Osteoarthritis, hyaluronic acid (ie. Supartz, Hyalgan, Synvisc, Orthovisc) can also be used. These are viscous lubricating substances that may relieve pain in the knee for up to 6-12 months.
Fibromyalgia
Have been suffering from fibromyalgia for a little over 6 years now. The road has not been easy. Before seeing Dr. Angus Worthing, I had no understanding of what the condition was or how I could prove my way of living. Being that fibromyalgia is something that a lot of people are unaware of and even deny its existence, I experienced great depression and felt hopeless. My doctors refused to see me. There were days that I physically could not move and nothing seemed physically wrong. I was tested for everything and then referred to ARA. When I started seeing Dr Worthing, his knowledge and sensitivity helped me greatly. He is knowledgeable and compassionate. It took us awhile to find what worked for me, and now I see him every 6 months for review. Having a doctor who understands your condition and the symptoms that may arise reassures you that you are part of a great team! My battle with fibromyalgia is not just mine, it belongs to my doctor and myself.

ARA physicians do not fill out FMLA forms nor do they provide disability assessments or supporting documents for patients unless they have been seen for at least 6 visits and/or have been a patient of the practice for at least one year. Even beyond this time frame, your physician may determine that it is more appropriate for your primary care provider or another specialist to manage your disability application and forms. ARA physicians do not have the experience or training to prepare disability documents from a legal perspective. If your physician provides disability documents, the information used will be primarily based on objective information obtained from physical examination, diagnostic studies, and laboratory findings which may not support a disability claim. You will also be charged a $25 fee if your physician completes the disability documents. You may be better served if you discuss with your attorney whether disability documents should be obtained from another specialist who performs disability evaluations on a regular basis.

Please refer to the CDC website and resources below for additional information on how the infection is spread, what symptoms and signs to look for, methods to get treated, and preventative tools to protect yourself and others. If you suspect that you may have monkeypox please contact your local health department or go to your local urgent care center or emergency department. If you have been diagnosed with monkeypox and are on immunosuppressive medications, contact your prescribing physician to discuss how to manage your immunosuppressive medications during this time.

They treat patients with pain and disorders of the joints, muscles, tendons, bones, and other connective tissues. Their strong foundation in internal medicine prepares them as specialists to manage localized and generalized pain while also considering other medications or conditions.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Rheumatologists treat, for example, localized pain in the back, neck, shoulders, and hands, including osteoarthritis, tendonitis, and bursitis, and systemic pain caused by diseases like rheumatoid arthritis or systemic lupus. Carpal tunnel syndrome, Lyme disease, and osteoporosis are other examples of the diverse problems treated by rheumatologists.

Stress Management
Acupuncture, yoga, and stress management are among a number of complementary therapies associated with the treatment of low back pain. Some of these therapies are alternatives to exercise (yoga). Others are non-drug forms of pain management like acupuncture and massage therapy. None of these complementary therapies have been studied adequately to know their proven benefit for the treatment of low back pain. However, for the most part, these therapies have few associated toxicities. They may offer a reasonable option where the toxicities associated with drug therapies outweigh their benefits in specific individuals.

Ultrasound
If you’re suffering from chronic knee pain from osteoarthritis iovera° may be a treatment for you. iovera° is a medical procedure performed by your clinician that utilizes the power of cold to instantly reduce pain. Using ultrasound guidance, your provider can localize and treat the nerves contributing to your knee pain. This FDA-approved procedure is performed at most of our locations and takes approximately 30 minutes. Results can be felt immediately after treatment and may last up to six months. The iovera° treatment is localized and does not inject any drugs into the body. Results can be felt immediately after treatment. When the treatment is applied to a specific nerve, it will interrupt that nerve’s ability to send a pain signal, immediately reducing pain. Ask your provider if you are a good candidate for Iovera treatment.
MRI
Ultrasound imaging can define the size and integrity of a soft tissue structure; and it allows the physician to observe tissues at a much higher magnification than other imaging modalities. This permits the interpreting physician to understand and observe normal and abnormal changes in tissue. Whereas MRI cannot be performed in patients who have a pacemaker, metallic vascular clips in the body or head or are claustrophobic, ultrasound presents no such challenges.

There are more than 100 types of rheumatologic diseases, including musculoskeletal pain disorders; back and neck pain, tendinitis, bursitis, nerve impingements (sciatica, cervical radiculopathy, carpal tunnel syndrome); osteoarthritis; autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, spondyloarthropathies, polymyalgia rheumatic, lupus, Sjogren’s syndrome, antiphospholipid syndrome, scleroderma; and vasculitis; osteoporosis and osteopenia; gout; fibromyalgia; and Lyme arthritis.
Pinched Nerve

Most commonly injected joints include the knee, shoulder, elbow, ankle, wrist, base of thumb, and other small joints of the hand. Hip joints can be injected with the use of Ultrasound (see ultrasound section). Ultrasound can also be used to injection small joints, like in the hand and wrist. Areas of bursitis, tendonitis and tendon sheaths can be injected as well, like trochanteric bursitis, elbow epicondylitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, plantar fasciitis.
