Most embarassing experience for a hairstyle ever!! I had a head full of hair, for a natural hair style I wanted my hair to be cut like. Stylist Bernisha (who did not know how to operate a pair of clippers) CHOPPED my hair up! I showed her a picture of a young lady with a tapered V shaped hair cut. However, I walked out with a very narrow mohawk (I didn't want) with a very small patch of hair at the top of my head. My center, back, and sides have no hair. She cut too much off the center. I have to hide this messed up cut! This is not the place to come. This is not my first BAD experience with this salon. I figured I'll give it another chance and still walked out a mess. When my natural hair was shoulder length (before the horrible chop) I let Bernisha strengthen my hair the first time. I had the consultation, blow dry, hot comb, and flat iron. That experience went fine but when I went back for the second time she missed an important step for my thick natural hair; the hot comb! She went through it with just the flat iron leaving my hair frizzy, not like I paid a salon. I entrusted once more after she told me she could cut my hair like the pictures. She LIED! She had to ask Freddy, (the guy whom they are training to do hair... :\ ), how to turn on the clippers...and I quote, " how you turn these things on", he walked over... I was there from 830am til little after 4pm for a hair cut and color. I don't care for the color, but everybody knows you may not get the color you want on the first try but not a MESSED up cut. They have a barber, (I forgot her name), who tried to help make it look better but even she said it was a bad cut. Therefore, there was no fixing the haircut. I thanked her, but I do not know if the cut was that bad or if she did not know what to do either. The mohawk was uneven. I told her I would have had more respect for her if she would have told me she did not know how to do the cut or work a pair of clippers. I had someone back in NOLA who would have done much better(VOGUE). I gave it a week for the owner ,Yolanda, to call me. However, she has yet to respond. It's a shame! I paid $100! I want my money back so I can go somewhere else to get my hair fixed. After all the money I've spent on hairstyles, gift cards, and hair products, I would think they would have more respect for their clients. Where's my professional experience to go with my professional hair prices? STAY AWAY IF YOU WANT HAIR ON YOUR HEAD!!

I too have had a horrible experience at this so called "natural hair salon". I went in looking to get a shape up for my birthday and walked out with straightened hair which I did not want and told the stylist this many times. True I blame myself for not running out of the salon at the first site of the flat iron, but I believe that if you tell your stylist that you do not want a certain style/treatment done to your hair then they shouldn't do it. Now almost a year later I am still battling the aftermath of this one visit. My hair one side has heat damage and no elasticity where it was heat straightened. I have not had my hair heat treated since so I know this is her doing. I have slowly been cutting the damage myself. I am never trusting this salon again and neither should you they are not about healthy natural hair at all.

I went to this salon for the first time since I became natural since 2010. In four years since my big chop i manage to grow my hair over 14 inches long all around. I saw that it was the go to for naturals and wanted to check it out. I was told that consultation has to be done before i could make and appointment, which was only on Tuesdays and Wednesday afternoons. I managed to go for the consult. I was told about the protein treatments from L'Oreal and Paul Mitchell, but no mention of the products black hair gurus have come to know and cherish and particularly the ones that had grown my hair from less than an inch to its amazing length. In fact I was told to stay away from the products my hair has loved so much, like castor oils argon oil, cantu and leave ins. i should have let that be my sign to run, but no. Nonetheless I decided to give them a try. I went for my protein treatment, wash and style. Biggest mistake of my natural hair journey ever. first my hair was washed not in section, even though it was a massive amount and she did promise that they wash hair in quarters, it was washed all together. then the worst part ever DETANGLING!!! remember I have very long hair!. she part my hair in three using a comb!! and held it by the root and just went to town. She pulled at the rest of it like she was a crazed child with a helpless doll in her hand..i was mortified but said nothing. Is this place suppose to know about how to care for natural hair?.. She held on to 4 inches while she tore out the rest of my 10 inches of hair!! Everyone know you comb out only while under water AND you comb out 4 inches at a time from ends to root!! i was placed under the dryer without quartering off and sealing the" detangled" or massacred hair in twists do it does not get tangled again. I was told that "we don't use oils here". Just in the "detangling process I lost massive amounts of hair that was not shedding. I have never loss so much hair in one process before! not to mention when she combed it out again!! yes you heard me right detangled again dry this time. I wanted to cry but was so numb from what just happen. I convinced myself that i was overreacting. she show me a comb that had little to no hair on it and said "see" but when i got up to go back under the dryer there it was clumps and clumps of my hair on her table..because you know how they have our back to the mirror, for what reason I don't know, I felt sick..Did I mention how rough she was, claiming I was tender headed, there was no gentleness just straight rag-doll hair treatment. Throughout the blow dry there was no heat protector.. I have (or had) a lot of hair!! yet she claim she placed heat protector i my hair...two drops of what ever is not gonna cut it. two weeks before I blew out my hair using the argan oil on each section and it was gorgeous shiny and healthy. I was quoted for 130 for protein, trim and style I only did the protein and style and was charged 125 dollars. She said that I was quoted for the wrong amount. Its not until now when I have pulled out the style I realized the extent of the damage done to my hair. there was no leave in conditioner so you know that my hair cuticles where left wide open. The ends of my hair is rough and has 8 inches of OBVIOUS THINNESS from the root, exactly where it was held during the tearing out process. I wish I could attach picture so you can see how disgusting it looks. Everytime I see it i wanna cry. I walked in with thick beautiful twist out and now I cant even do a twist out, because it would look so thick up to 4 inches form the root then ...very long spaced out stragglies This is the first and last time I will come to this or any salon. This may be a placed for short haired naturals or relaxed beauties but long hair natura ladiesl..DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT if you wanna maintain your length. Now I must consider cutting of 4 years of growth for on afternoon at Benote Salon.. Thanks a lot guys!!
