I'm a healthcare professional and travel for my work and needed to take my dog Harley to a vet in town. Eagan Pet Clinic had excellent reviews so I decided to take Harley to see them. Excellent staff and very compassionate about our needs and my concerns. They were reasonably priced and the vet discussed Harley's treatment plan with me, which didn't include selling me unnecessary treatment options. The clinic was clean and well maintained. We offer a fully stocked, on-site pharmacy in order to provide you with a diverse inventory of prescription and non-prescription veterinary products and medications needed for wellness care, surgical care, nutritional care, and emergency situations. Our onsite pharmacy allows us to prescribe antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medications, deworming medications, flea, tick, and heartworm preventative products, skin and coat care products, nutritional supplements and dental care products.

Keeping your pet as comfortable as possible from the time they check-in for surgery until the time their procedure has healed is of utmost importance to us. Your dog or cat will receive multi-modal pain management before, during and after the procedure to keep your pet comfortable throughout the entire surgical process. We routinely prescribe at-home pain medication during the post-operative period to keep your pet comfortable during recovery at home.

We recommend testing your kitten for Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency virus. These viruses can cause serious illness in your cat and are contagious to other cats. It is especially important to test for these before introducing your new kitten to other cats in the household.
Ear Infection Treatment
Atopic dermatitis is an itchy skin disease of dogs and cats. In atopic dermatitis, an allergic reaction occurs when a pet is exposed to allergens in their environment such as pollen, mold, or house dust. Less commonly, Some dogs or cats can be allergic to their food or treats. The allergic reaction causes the animal to itch, rub, lick, or bite at themselves. The itching may be localized to certain areas or may be over their entire body. Allergies also predispose pets to developing secondary skin, eye and ear infections.

Kidney Disease Treatment
One of the most common concerns our pet owners have is anesthesia. Most common, it is our older patients that are in the most need of having dental work performed. It is important to remember that dental disease is painful and causes great discomfort to our pets. The only way to effectively treat established dental disease is to do a thorough dental cleaning under anesthesia. We utilize the safest anesthetics available. We also recommend bloodwork prior to anesthesia in order to detect any underlying concerns such as liver or kidney disease that may alter our plan of action. Animals with underlying disease such as a heart murmur, liver disease, kidney disease, and/or diabetes are actually the patients who can benefit the most from having a thorough dental cleaning to remove sources of pain, infection, and inflammation that may be aggravating their concurrent condition. Your veterinarian may also recommend chest radiographs or an ultrasound prior to anesthesia if your pet has a heart murmur or other concerns detected during a physical exam to give us more information. Please discuss any concerns you may have with your veterinarian.
Periodontal Disease Treatment
Daily brushing of your pet's teeth (do not use human toothpaste) along with the use of other products such as dental treats, Maxigard Oral Rinse and weekly application of Oravet Plaque prevention gel will help prevent periodontal disease. We also carry an excellent water additive called Healthy Mouth that will help slow down plaque and tartar buildup. This, in addition to at least yearly comprehensive dental cleanings under anesthesia, will help keep your pet's mouth pain and infection free.

Laboratory Services
Our on-site laboratory allows for most screening tests to be completed within a very short period of time. Blood chemistry profiles, complete blood counts, urinalysis, urine cultures and pre-surgical screenings are among the many tests we perform in-house. We also routinely look at cells from masses to evaluate for possible underlying cancers. Reliable, independent veterinary laboratories are utilized for other tests when deemed appropriate and most test results are available the next business day. We also routinely perform in-house urine cultures, with results being available the next day in order to help guide appropriate antibiotic therapy.
X-Ray
Radiographs, or x-rays, help our veterinarians evaluate musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary systems.The image quality of a digital x-ray is much higher than a film x-ray. We are able to view the x-ray almost immediately so we can diagnose and treat your pet rapidly. Radiation exposure to your pet is minimized because we use far less radiation for digital radiography. We can also send your pet's images to a board-certified radiologist for a second opinion when needed.
Dental Radiology
Diagnosis is done by a combination of visual and radiographic means. The lesions will usually start out as little erosions along the gumline with associated inflammation to the gums in the area. They can progress to large holes in the teeth, and eventually can destroy most of the tooth. In severe cases, the entire crown of the tooth can be lost, with only the roots remaining. These lesions will usually be rough when an explorer is rubbed along the suspected lesion. Dental radiology is used to diagnose lesions under the gumline, to determine the extent of the lesion, as well as to determine if there is any root pathology. In addition, as the disease progresses, the lesion will again become painful, and our feline patients don't tend to show us pain. The only effective treatment for resorptive lesions is extraction of the affected tooth.
Microchipping
Every year, thousands of lost pets are reunited with their family because of microchips. A microchip is your pet's permanent ID. At Eagan Pet Clinic we can microchip your dog or cat during any routine visit. It is a simple and inexpensive procedure and no anesthetic is required. We can also scan them to see if they already have a microchip. We use the AKC microchip system that is used by shelters and veterinary clinics throughout the world. We strongly recommend microchipping all animals. In the event they are separated from you, it may be your only means of being reunited with them.
