Let's be objective

I have been going to carousel kids since it opened. I have tried other secondhand stores for buying and selling and carousel kids does not deserve these harsh reviews others have given. The store is clean, the food plan is inviting, and the staff is friendly. I've come to know the owner by name and she recognizes me when I come in. The way I look at it you can spend hours of your time holding a garage sale or dealing with people on Craigslist and get more cash or be done with it in one stop in much less time for less cash. (My time is worth a great deal!) As far as buying from them, I shop there like I do elsewhere. I watch the sales and take advantage of their special promotions. Clothing is discounted up to 80% off when they change seasons, for example. Let's all remember that they are running a business and have employees and overhead that dictates what they can pay you in order to keep their doors open. I personally encourage my friends to stop in and check it out, especially when they are pregnant. I dressed great while pregnant with my last two babies thanks to the fantastic maternity selection at carousel kids.

what a fiascel, not even worth a star

My first i took in a huge bag off stuff ranging from infant to size 12 girls, more than half the clothes were brand new as for my daughter grew two sizes in a month. All the clothes were name brand and clean. They only took an outfit and 1 pair of jeans. I did the drop off and 4 days later they finally went through everything. After i got home and went through everything they didnt take i noticed that the jungle shopping cart cover was not in the bag, an item that was new and never used. I will never go back there. Their clothes were over priced. I can go to marshalls and buy new name brand clothes for the same price. They also had a bassinet for $65 covered in black pet hair. I bought a nicer clean bassinet on craigslist. From now on i will use craigslist to buy and sell. I dont recommend this shop to anyone and by my experience everyone i know was warned.

The first time I sold some things to Carousel Kids I was okay with the price offered. But the second time, it was absolutely ridiculous. I won't even get into the basket full of things they rejected because they supposedly had stains on them. These are things I had looked through and checked. But I had nine brand new books, two puzzles, and four baby and toddler outfits (2 piece each, so 8 pieces total) that still had tags on them.

When I came back after 45 minutes to see what they were offering, they offered $9 cash for the books, new clothes, and puzzles. Um, really? That's outrageous. I don't expect to gets lots for my stuff, but that is just insulting. At that rate, I was getting 50 cents or less for each thing, including new clothes. One was even a genuine merchandise Cardinals romper.

I then said, well, how much for the books? $3 for NINE books in perfect condition. At that rate, I donated it, and not with them. I took my stuff home and either sold it on Craigslist or gave it to the charity of my choice and took the tax write off.

Don't bother going there. They'll give you nothing and then turn it around and sell your stuff for 10X what they gave you. This is not the type of place I want to do business with, nor will I ever buy from them again.

Paid More Guarantee?

Decided to sell some baby clothes and accessories stored in garage. Sorted out a few, and packed them up. Contacted business, was asked if I could be there by 5 or if i needed an appointment. When I got there I was greeted by helpful and cheerful associates. Told them I had a few things with me and more at home.Went to the purchasing window where I was told I could leave things and get a quote when I bring in the rest of my things by appraiser. Decided I wanted to see how much I could get for the items I brought in, so told associate to go ahead and tally up what I had. TOLD to walk around while she completed task. Guess standing at the counter while MY things were being inspected is a NO-NO. Was only paid 28.00 for like new and new items including a bouncy seat, toys, one unopened for more than $20 in the box, over 10 pair of good quality shoes as well as clothing. Was not given a receipt or breakdown as to why I was paid only 28.00. On the Plus side, any items not purchased can be given to charity. I was offered a form to fill out to submit with my taxes for the donated items. I found out later the "Pay more Guarantee" is only good if you have a statement from another establishment, then they offer 50% more . IT'S ALWAY BETTER TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO.I should have declined the offer and took my business elsewhere, but packing all that stuff back up seemed to much trouble. In this economy, is just being fair to much to ask for. Or better still, just give your items to charity and avoid the 100% markup.
