Dr. Roger Mazlen is head of Mazlen Medical Arts, PC and an internationally recognized physician specializing in internal medicine with over 30 years experience in private practice and cutting edge medical research. Dr. Mazlen is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of CFIDS, viral and bacterial infections, immune dysfunction, Fibromyalgia and cancer-related malnutrition and fatigue. A fellow of the American College of Nutrition, an attending at Long Island Jewish Hospital Center, Dr. Mazlen has seen over a thousand cases of CFIDS and CFIDS-like disorders, the majority of which attained significant improvement under his treatment and care. Dr. Mazlen also has significant clinical experience in managing fibromyalgia, Lyme disease, heavy metal toxicity, sleep disorders and cancer-related fatigue and malnutrition. He has successfully organized a major international medical meeting at the MD Anderson Hospital on Cancer and Nutrition. He is also a presenter at the annual SASS Medical Research Foundation Seminar and serves as one of their expert lecturers on nutrition and breast cancer.

Multiple Sclerosis
The clinician's challenge in diagnosing CFIDS is to first rule-out other possible causes of prolonged fatigue such as: Lyme's disease, multiple sclerosis, various cancers, depression and post-viral syndrome such as "infectious mono." Today, most practitioners consider the Fukuda et al. criteria which requires concurrent occurrence of four or more symptoms (i.e. sore throat, lymph node pain, muscle aches, joint pain, post exertion malaise, headaches of a new or different type, memory and concentration difficulties and un-refreshing sleep), along with six or more months of fatigue that is not significantly alleviated by rest.

Dr. Mazlen is a medical attending at Long Island Jewish Hospital and is also a fellow of the American College of Nutrition. Dr. Mazlen was as a Research Associate at the National Institutes of Health (Bethesda,Md.) under the mentorship of Christian Anfinsen, Jr., Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry. Dr. Mazlen previously served as senior medical attending in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Bone Disease of the Mount Sinai Medical School and is also the Chief Scientific Officer of BioMedical Sciences, Inc.

Thyroid testing is used to assess thyroid dysfunction and/or thyroid disease. Direct measure of thyroxine (total & free) or triidothyronine (T3) and indirect measure of function using FT4 index or T3 uptake allow for supportive evidence of clinical findings.

Chemotherapy
The practice provides support treatments for many types of cancer, especially colon, breast, lung and prostate cancers. Patients include those who are preparing to start chemotherapy and/or radiation; others who have already finished a conventional course of chemotherapy and/or radiation; and those with a history of cancer who want to prevent recurrence.
