Founded in 1991, the Institute for the Development of African-American Youth provides educational and cultural programs for youths, families and communities. It is a community-based and nonprofit organization that serves Philadelphia and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania. The organization develops programs that address various educational, social, cultural and economic issues. It operates the Southwest Philadelphia Prevention, Don't Fall Down In the Hood and Young Fathers United programs, as well as the Lynnewood Gardens Learning Center. The Institute for the Development of African-American Youth provides life skills development conflict resolution, educational enrichment and case management services. It also offers job readiness and placement assistance services for youths. The organization works in partnership with the Philadelphia Department of Recreation, Blueprint for a Safer Philadelphia, Temple University, Philadelphia Health Management Corporation and School District of Philadelphia. The Institute for the Development of African-American Youth maintains a location in Elkins Park, Pa.
