Dental Examination
At the initial visit, Dr. Tsuyuki will perform your child's first oral examination and will review oral hygiene instructions. In some cases, he will clean your child's teeth and apply topical fluoride. The extent of the visit will depend entirely on you and your child’s comfort level.
X-rays
Dental X-rays are a valuable diagnostic tool used to identify decay, extra teeth, bone defects, tumors, cysts and check the progress of previous procedures. Advances in technology now allow for digital x-rays to reduce radiation exposure by more than 50 percent and produce instant, high-quality images. The improved diagnostic capability of digital x-rays and the ability to view on a computer screen allow the patient to better understand and follow treatment.

Teeth Cleaning
Regular cleanings help keep gums healthy and teeth cavity free. A dental cleaning includes the removal of tartar and plaque and polishing of the teeth to remove stains and prevent further buildup of plaque.
Fluoride Treatment
According to the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, a child’s first dental check-up should occur between the ages of 6 months to one year. At your child’s first visit, we will review their medical/dental health history with you. We will review home care and discuss dental findings and treatment needs. A thorough head and neck examination and evaluation of the teeth and gums will be performed. Their teeth will be cleaned and a fluoride treatment will be applied. Radiographs (x-rays) are only taken if necessary.
Dental Sealants
Your child may notice that the tooth feels different because of the new sealant. The teeth and bite will feel normal again in a couple of days. Your child should avoid sticky, crunchy, or hard foods for 24 hours following the placement of the sealant.

Crowns
Make certain that your child is not eating or chewing while numb. Please make sure they do not bite their cheeks, lips, or tongue as doing so can cause injury to the soft tissue. Your child should avoid sticky, crunchy, or hard foods for 24 hours. If your child experiences sensitivity or discomfort, you may give your child Children’s Tylenol, Advil or Motrin as directed for the age and weight of your child.
Dental Bonding

Pulpotomy
If the inner chamber of the tooth, known as the dental pulp, is invaded by decay, it will gradually deteriorate and become infected. The treatment process involves removing the infected pulp, and filling the chamber with a material that will help restore the tooth until it normally exfoliates (falls out on its own naturally).
Root Canal Treatment
Stainless steel crowns can be used to restore both primary (baby) and permanent molars that have extensive decay or have had root canal treatment. Durable and easy to keep clean, these restorations cover the entire tooth to prevent further decay from occurring.
