It begins with a short preparation to isolate your lips and gums. The clinician then applies the proprietary Zoom! whitening gel which is activated by a specially designed light. The typical improvement in tooth color is by at least six to ten shades, sometimes even more. A fluoride treatment completes the procedure. The results will amaze you. In most cases, teeth continue getting whiter the first few days after the procedure.
Dental Sealants
A sealant is used to fill in narrow grooves in a tooth that cannot be adequately cleaned by brushing. Sometimes, the tooth structure has fine pits or fissures that accumulate plaque, not because the children doesn’t brush, but because they’re too narrow to allow even one bristle into them. These pits and fissures develop cavities subsequently, and we don’t want that. So the dentist will brush on a coating of the sealant that seals the grooves and pits, making it possible to brush off all the plaque and keep your teeth healthy.

Resin Composite
The direct technique commonly involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is often referred to as bonding.
Veneers
Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is placed over the visible area of the tooth. Veneers are usually done to only that part of the teeth that show while talking or smiling. The procedure can be either direct or indirect.
Crowns
It takes two appointments to restore a tooth with a crown. In the first any decay is removed from the tooth and it is shaped to accept the crown. Then an impression is made of the tooth for use in fabricating a crown. Between the two visits the crown is made, usually of high-strength porcelain over gold alloy, all ceramic material, or gold. During this time a temporary crown is worn. In the second visit this temporary is removed. Then the permanent crown is adjusted as needed and then cemented in place.
Dental Bonding

Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment (also referred to as root canal therapy or endodontic therapy) is made necessary when a cavity is allowed, through neglect, to reach all the way to this pulp. (Regular cleanings and checkups prevent and detect problems early) Sometimes deep restorations or trauma to a tooth may cause the nerve to be damaged to the point it needs root canal therapy, also. Once this occurs the pulp becomes infected, and can even extend through the root tip and begin to eat away at the surrounding bone (this is an abscess).

Deep Cleaning
If you’re having a problem, come in and see us so we can take care of it right away. The treatment usually involves a deep cleaning or root planing done under a local anesthetic, along with local antibiotic agents. If the gum disease gets too severe it may need to be treated through surgery or extraction. This is why it is important to get it treated at the first sign of a problem.

Dentures
The purpose of the “Fixed Partial Denture” is to restore all the functions of the child’s missing teeth (chewing, speech, swallowing, maintaining the space for permanent teeth and appearance).

Dr. Shevchenko then received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston. She received this degree with honor at the top of her class and received recognition as an outstanding graduate. Earning scholastic awards both in achievement and research, she was accepted into residency at the University of Texas Dental School where she graduated and earned her Master of Science degree and certificate in Orthodontics. Dr. Shevchenko later completed a rigorous examination to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, the highest level of attainment in education, evaluation, excellence, and ethics. This distinguished achievement is awarded upon successful completion of three phases of oral and clinical examinations. This accomplishment reflects her dedication to continuing education and professional excellence.
Invisalign Orthodontics
She attended Houston Baptist University and received her DDS from the University Of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston. She is very involved in continuing education to stay up-to-date on current topics, trends, and issues in dentistry. Braces

General Dentistry
K. Thomas Trigger was born and raised in Central Illinois. He graduated from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry in 1971. After graduation he spent two years in the U.S. Navy serving as a general dentist after which he and his wife Joyce moved to Houston where he opened his private practice. He practiced at the same location for over 40 years before relocating to South Texas Family Dentistry in 2015. He holds a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree, is a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, a life member of the Houston District Dental Society, the Texas Dental Association, and the American Dental Association. Dr. Trigger is a very gentle dentist and goes to great lengths to make his patients as comfortable as possible while providing high quality treatment. He has made many great relationships with his patients over the years.
