Overall
all good here

I had a very good experience with Rick and the team at A L engine rebuilders. Rick gladly answered a lot of questions for me over the phone and said yes when I asked if I could drive down to the shop to pick up the engine. I drove there from the Tampa area to save the shipping cost and to inspect the shop and their process. When I arrived Rick was kind enough to give me a short tour of the facility and he also showed me where they don't reuse the core pistons and rods as he had told me over the phone. They even loaded the crate on my truck for me but wouldn't take any money for doing so. once I got the engine back to the house I put it on the engine stand where before installing it in the boat I was able to pressure the Oiling system check for leaks also check for compression so on and so forth which is basic due diligence whenever you buy a remanufactured engine. I think it's possible the previous poster had an issue with his Marine technician not doing this prior to the install. Compression and oil pressures are great and the engine runs very well with good power and fuel mileage. This is my second marine engine rebuild number 5 engine rebuild overall and I see no deficiencies from A L rebuilders. I have paid a lot more for other engine rebuilds with no better results show for it. Next time I need an engine rebuilt or rebuilt engine assembly I only have to make one phone call to Rick.

Do not use this company. They are the worst company i have ever dealt with. I ordered a motor from them early last year. After i had the motor installed, i had an oil leak that i couldn t get rid of. I finally took it back to the marine place to have it fixed, and after they pulled the motor to find the leak, i was told that it was the rear main seal AND the cam bearings. I call the company and was told that i could send the motor back to have their mechanic inspect it. All at my cost. Thats money to have the mechanic break it down and crate, ship it to them at $250, and then have it shipped back after they do whatever they do, pay to have it shipped back at another $250, and have the motor built back up and put back in. So i was looking at around $3000 total. The problem i had with doing that is if they didn t do it correctly the first time, i had a feeling they would either lie about fault, or send me another nightmare of a motor. So, basically now i have a motor that i paid $3700 for, after the cost of the motor, and all the labor i was charged for the teardown and inspection and reinstall of the motor. The motor still dumps 6 quarts of oil every 30 minutes of use. Please do not use this company. Their price is a direct reflect of the craftsmanship of their company. Their warranty is #$%$ if you dont live next door to their shop, and even then they aren t going to cover ANY labor for their trashy motors to be fixed. JUST PLEASE BEWARE!

This was a nightmare

I purchased a 350 for my boat and the motor was no good. The price they are charging is a "to good to be true deal." When I received the first motor I had a cert. marine mech. put my acces. on only to find that the number 6 cylinder was not firing and was actually sucking water into the motor. When I called AL Engine to inform them of the problem the only thing they told me was to have my mech break the engine back down and they would have to picked up and send me another. When I asked who would be paying for the double labor on the install, all they would tell me is that they do not cover labor. I tried several times to work it out with them with no success. I really want to boat this year so I let them pick up the orginal motor and ship me a replacement only to find out that the replacement has the incorrect rocker arms and lifters that are pitted with oil that has been mixed with water. This is a nightmare. I am now in the hole $4000 for the labor that should have only cost $1800. Please stay away from this company.
