This is a very common condition. Most people report a recent increase in their activity level with their hands such as gardening or a long-distance drive. The majority of the cases I see all from repetitive grip type activities. They occur more commonly in patients with diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis. It is the result of thickened tissue in the Palm that does not allow for smooth gliding of the tendons that control motion of the finger. In the more severe cases the finger may get locked in the palm and you have to use the other fingers to unlock it.

“I have seen Dr Yospur approximately two years ago for a thumb injury and had to have surgery. I had an appointment the same day I called and Dr Yospur was wonderful. He took all the time I needed and scheduled surgery within a couple of days. Then about two months ago I injured the same hand but in the wrist area just behind the thumb. I suffered for two months with the pain figuring it would get better over time. I went to Urgent care to get it xrayed and it was not broken. I called Dr Yospur’s office and his receptionist, Carrie, was able to get me an appointment the very next day. Carrie was there when I had the first injury. Both times, Carrie was fantastic. She’s friendly and helpful and has an awesome personality. That’s not something you get in every doctors office. I just retired from that position myself so I know what to expect. She was just wonderful. Dr Yospur took care of my new injury with an injection and it has now been three weeks and there is no more pain. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
The carpal bones are eight small, marble-sized bones that form the wrist. These bones are right in between your long forearm bones, and your hand bones. The “carpal tunnel” is the name for a natural structure that exists in everyone. As the name suggests, it is a tunnel — the carpal bones (wrist bones) make up the floor and walls, and a broad flat ligament creates the roof. A nerve, called the Median Nerve, runs through the tunnel, along with 9 tendons that allow forearm muscles to control the fingers.

Within the confines of the splint, active range of motion exercises will be initiated. Your therapist will show you how to do these safely, without straining the healing tendon. During therapy, massage techniques will continue to be used to soften and flatten your scar, and to prevent excessive scar tissue build-up. Your therapist may use other tools such as kinesiotaping, therapeutic ultrasound, manual techniques, and compression wrapping to facilitate healing and maximize motion.

The majority of injuries can be found by history and physical exam. However in some patients, especially if the injury occurred several weeks or months ago, an MRI may be necessary.

He then returned to California to do an internship and residency program in general surgery at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. After moving to the Southwest, Dr. Yospur successfully completed his residency in plastic surgery at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
Pinched Nerve
Carpal tunnel syndrome is essentially a pinched nerve in the wrist. There is a space in the wrist called the carpal tunnel where the median nerve and nine tendons pass from the forearm into the hand (Figure 1). Carpal tunnel syndrome happens when pressure builds up from swelling in this tunnel and puts pressure on the nerve.

Nailbed injuries are injuries to the fingernail, and the soft tissue below and around the fingernail. They can occur for a variety of reasons including trauma (sports injuries, door slams), cancer, infection, work-related injuries, or cysts/warts.
Physical Therapy
Thus, when bones are broken, the bone and corresponding joint must be immobilized through pins, plates & screws, and/or casting or bracing orthoses (“splints”). This allows the body to heal the broken bone without muscles acting on it and pulling it apart. However, when a joint is prevented from moving for several weeks, the fracture will heal but the joint is often stiff when it’s allowed to start moving again. The purpose of occupational/physical therapy is to carefully remobilize the joint without compromising the integrity of the healing bone.
