Measures blood flow to your heart both while at rest, and while your heart is working harder due to exertion or medication. During a nuclear exercise stress test, a small quantity of radioactive tracer is injected into a vein. This tracer releases radiation that is then detected by a special camera called a gamma camera, which produces computer images of the heart. When combined with exercise, this test assists in determining whether there is sufficient blood flow to the heart during activity versus at rest. Usually, an appointment for a nuclear stress test will take 2 to 3 hours, though the actual exercise part of the test only lasts less than 15 minutes. The results of a nuclear stress test are then reviewed by a cardiologist and reported to your referring or primary care physician.

This test is used to check your heart’s rhythms. It is a continuous recording of a person’s EKG for 24 hours. The patient will have EKG electrodes attached to their chest, which are attached to a small tape recorder that can be hung around the patient’s neck or slung over the shoulder, or attached to their belt. Since the patient will go about their normal daily activities (except for anything in which water would touch the monitor), it allows the physician to correlate any symptoms of palpitations, dizziness or black outs, which will help determine any abnormalities or heart conditions. Holter monitoring can be more effective in detecting abnormal heart rhythms than EKGs since it is performed over a longer period of time.

All adults should make sure they receive their Influenza (flu) vaccine yearly, as well as their Tdap or Td vaccine. We offer the annual flu vaccination in the office every Friday as supplies allow. If you require other vaccinations, our staff can help coordinate this for you for easy access.
