Primary Care
It’s possible that your primary care doctor or gynecologist have spoken to you ad nauseum about breast self-checks. We all know we should preform these exams on our own, but don’t always give ourselves the time and attention our bodies need. However, there is something that our doctors don’t share enough with us or don’t put enough emphasis on, which we should put at the top of our list for self-care.
Immunizations
At the time, physicians agreed that patients with a recent COVID vaccination or booster should delay having a mammogram for at least six weeks. The rationale was that delaying mammography would limit false positives when their mammograms are interpreted. This is because enlarged axillary lymph nodes are one of the abnormalities that radiologists look for in relation to breast cancer.

Pregnancy

Ovarian Cancer
The BRCA gene test determines whether or not you inherited a mutation to that specific gene. It is a simple blood test that uses DNA analysis to identify harmful changes to either of the two BRCA genes. This gene mutation is responsible for about 5-10% of breast cancers but significantly increases your risk of developing breast cancer. If you have a personal history of breast cancer or ovarian cancer, have a male relative with breast cancer, or a personal history of breast cancer in one or more of your relatives you might be at an increased risk of having the BRCA gene and benefit from testing.

Ultrasound
A breast cyst(s) is a painful or painless fluid-filled mass. They are typically smooth, firm, discrete, fluid-filled masses on palpation, however at times they may also present as firm masses. They are related to your hormones and menstrual cycle and therefore are most common in premenopausal women or postmenopausal women on hormone therapy. Ultrasound will help classify the cyst as simple, complicated, or complex. If it is a simple cyst, it is typically left alone however if you have pain, it can be drained. Complicated and complex cysts typically involve a breast biopsy and/or further imaging to confirm that it is a benign finding.
MRI
Fat necrosis presents as a breast mass that results from trauma. Often times this fat necrosis happens from minor trauma to your breasts that you may not even be able to recall. On physical exam, it feels like a hard lump and therefore it may be worrisome for malignancy and is typically worked up the way breast cancer would be worked up (mammogram, ultrasound, biopsy, MRI). Once it is confirmed that the mass is not cancer it is just observed, and no further action is needed.

He then graduated from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1984 and received Fellowship training from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. With over 36 years of diverse experience, Dr. Foster specializes in Interventional and Diagnostic Radiology and is certified by the American Board of Radiology. He has been affiliated with many hospitals including Holmes Regional Medical Center, Melbourne Regional Medical Center and Sebastian River Medical Center. He is currently the Medical Director of at TEPAS Breast Center.

Another reason women need to continue to get screened in later years of life is that as women age, the composition of the breast tissue undergoes natural changes. Breasts tend to become less dense which can make it easier to detect abnormalities through mammography. Regular screenings enable healthcare professionals to compare images from previous years, identifying any changes that may indicate the presence of cancerous cells.

The SHOWER SHIRT™ is designed for use after any breast surgery requiring drains: lumpectomy, mastectomy, reconstruction, breast reduction, mastopexy (lift) or augmentation.
Breast Reconstruction
The shower shirt is a post-surgical, water-resistant, garment designed by a breast cancer patient who had undergone a bi-lateral mastectomy followed by breast reconstruction surgery. The idea for the shower shirt was created after the patient was told a shower and/or bath was not possible until her surgical drains were removed, and that time frame would vary between two and three weeks. The patient began researching water resistant garments which could be used for post-mastectomy showering/bathing; to her surprise, no garment existed so the first shower shirt design prototype was created from a beauty salon cape.

This is the most common cause of BENIGN bloody nipple discharge. Though these are considered benign breast lesions, they typically require a biopsy and are often excused to rule out any hidden cancer as they can have areas of atypical or ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).
