Warts
Cryotherapy
Warts are caused by a virus called Human papillomavirus. Infection occurs by direct skin contact. There is no way to effectively prevent warts. Warts will resolve without treatment in 2/3 of cases within 2 years. Treatment may not be necessary but can be considered if there is pain, persistence of the wart or personal preference. Treatment options include over the counter medications containing salicylic acid or in office treatment using cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen. You may be referred to dermatology if there are multiple, recurring warts, there is a wart on the face or genital area, or you have large, deep, or painful plantar warts (warts on the soles of the feet).

Primary Care
Jackie Walter, APRN, CPNP,Â grew up in Metairie, Louisiana and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in 2010. She went on to study Pediatric Primary care at the University of South Alabama and graduated in 2014 with her Master of Science in Nursing Jackie maintains her certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner through the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board. She gained the majority of her pediatric experience at Our Lady of the Lake Childrenâ€™s Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA, where she practiced as a nurse for 3 years. Jackie lives in Mandeville with her husband, son, and two dogs.
Emergency Care
If your child is less than 3 months old it is best to check the temperature in the babyâ€™s rectum with rectal thermometer. If the temperature is >100.4 F you need to contact your childâ€™s doctor right away or head to the nearest emergency room as children this age require immediate evaluation.

Gynecology
Jennifer Berniard, RN, CLC, grew up in Slidell, Louisiana. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2005. Jennifer has experience in the fields of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, and Nursery in the hospital setting. In 2016, Jennifer achieved her certification as a Lactation Counselor from the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice. She went on to create her business, Nurture, where she has been helping women achieve their breastfeeding goals for the last two years. Jennifer and her husband reside in Madisonville, Louisiana. She is a proud mother to four children.

We provide screening for ADHD and manage any medications that are needed. We also will help to facilitate any referrals for counseling that is needed.

Fungus
Ringworm is actually not caused by a worm but by a fungus. A single ringworm can be treated with over the counter topical medications like Lotramin or Lamisil. If there are multiple lesions they may need prescription topical medications or oral medications. Scalp lesions typically require a prescription shampoo and occasionally oral medication. It is important to keep nails clipped short and avoid scratching at or picking at lesions to prevent spread.
