The Yellow Brick Road

I purchased a diamond and peridot pendant for $1190.00 from the Yellow Brick Road Jewelers. Prior to making the purchase, I asked the owner's wife to examine the stone under their microscope and tell me if there were any defects (i.e. chips) in the stone. She indicated that the stone was in perfect condition with a few minor interior inclusions in the center of the stone. Upon taking the pendant home, I felt a small chip on the girdle of the stone with my finger. After further examination with a loupe, I can see one sizeable chip on the right side of the stone along with a few minor chips on the left girdle. I returned the pendant to the jeweler the following day, and Gary Shepcaro (shop owner) indicated that all of his peridot stones have chips and called them inclusions and not a chip. He indicated that if I wanted a better stone, I should spend more money and buy diamonds and that $1100.00 was such a nominal price to pay for a peridot stone. He had quite an attitude problem and he refused to give me refund. Instead he had his repair person try to polish out the chip.



The owner does not tell the customer in advance of the no refund policy and is very deceptive. Once he takes your money there is no recourse in getting it back if there is a problem with the merchandise. All reputable jewelers always have a 30-day money back guarantee such as Davidson & Licht, Ben Bridge, and Joe Escobar.



Owner has an attitude problem. I would stay away from this store and shop at more reputable stores with a better return policy and customer satisfaction guarantee.
