Dr. Hsu then returned to Philadelphia and received her MD from Jefferson Medical College. As a medical student, Dr. Hsu became interested in the surgical specialty of ophthalmology and successfully matched at New York University (NYU) and the Manhattan Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital in New York, NY for her ophthalmology residency. This was followed by additional surgical training in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus at the Casey Eye Institute of the Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) in Portland, OR.

Cataracts
A cataract is a progressive clouding of the natural lens of the eye. This clouding interferes with light as it passes to your retina. This leads to deterioration in the quality of your vision. Symptoms include the sensation of looking through a piece of wax paper, distortion or dimming of vision and color. This can interfere with your reading and driving. Some forms of cataract, including cortical cataracts, do not cause much effect on reading vision in normal lighting conditions, but with headlights with night driving and trying to read on a bright day these cataracts can lead to significant glare and haloes.
