Pediatric Care
As of May 2023, the Pediatric Residency Program has established a Pediatrics Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee. The Committee is meant to provide a safe space for Pediatric and Med+Peds residents and faculty who identify as Underrepresented in Medicine (URM) and all allies. While the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) defines underrepresented in medicine (URM) as “racial and ethnic populations that are underrepresented in the medical profession relative to their numbers in the general population”, this DEI Committee is committed to using a broader definition of URM. Our definition includes not only those from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, but also diversity in religion, gender, sexual orientation, ability/disability, and socioeconomic background.
Primary Care
Our primary care clinic sees patients from the newborn period through 21 years of age. Residents care for panel of patients during their training – inheriting patients from the graduating residents as well as bringing patients from the inpatient services such as newborn nursery, wards and ICUs. Resident clinics vary by rotation – while on inpatient months, residents have about 2 clinics and on outpatient rotations about 4-6 clinics. Our primary care outpatient curriculum focuses on Bright Futures as well as a variety of common outpatient topics.
Family Practice
Emergency Care
As one of the busiest public hospitals in the western United States, LAGMC/USC records nearly 50,000 inpatient discharges, 200,000 emergency department visits, and 1 million ambulatory care visits each year. LAGMC/USC is the largest single provider of health care in L.A. County, and treats more than 28 percent of trauma victims in the region. In addition, LAGMC/USC operates one of only three burn centers in the County and one of the few Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Units in Southern California.

What does working at LAC+USC mean to you? As an immigrant growing up in Los Angeles without consistent access to health care, I keenly recall a mix of emotions when my hard-working parents had to pay an exorbitant amount in cash for a simple leg cast when I injured myself in high school. Since then, I’ve been motivated to provide the highest level of care to our surrounding community, while remaining compassionate and learning from our patients’ voyage on a daily basis. Our faculty, residents, and staff embody this sentiment: that access to humane and effective health care is an innate right for ALL members of a just community.

Mental Health
Helps provide the geography and leadership for the Child Abuse and Neglect Program that includes a 24/7 forensic clinic, a follow-up clinic for children in foster care, urgent care services for children entering foster care and children in the general Pediatric Practice at the Medical Center as well as a Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder clinic, sexual assault center and a program aimed at the abuse of the elderly and disabled, the Adult Protection Team. The VIP also provides 24/7 access to mental health services and advocacy.

Description of Current Position: Dr. Scott is currently the fellowship training program director for the Allergy/Immunology Fellowship Program. She is also Division Chief of Allergy and Immunology with oversight of the prestigious nationally recognized Breathmobile Program (www.labreathmobile.com). Dr. Scott is active in community asthma awareness, improving asthma outcomes in underserved populations, and faculty development. She is an active member of local Departmental and University committees as well as National Allergy and Immunology organizations.
