Sekisui Sushi Bar & Steakhouse

NOT Japanese food...just what some American thinks Japanese food is. I lived in Japan for 15 years and my wife cooks real Japanese food daily. I was on a business trip and thought I'd give this place a try.



I ordered 8 pieces of sushi...which were good, but it's challenging to screw up a piece of raw fish on a pad of rice. The Indonesian waitress (she told me because I tried to converse with her in Japanese) didn't know the Japanese words for the sushi even though they were clearly printed in Japanese (Romaji) on the menu.



I then ordered the tempura, which tasted like the grease it was cooked in and "fried rice", or so they called it. The fried rice consisted of hard American rice cooked in oil...it was so bad I almost spit out the first bite back into the bowl; I left the rest.



Another nice touch to the place was the staff, when I go to a ethnic restaurant, I expect there to be natives serving & preparing the food, not a bunch of Spanish speaking Mexicans hanging around the bar watching baseball on TV between bussing tables and serving food. I don't believe there was a single Japanese person on staff there, at least not the night I ate there.



I was really looking forward to eating here; what a letdown. Again, this is NOT Japanese food. If you've never had authentic Japanese food then you'll probably not know the difference...if you have, stay far away from this place. This loser cost me $51 for a single dinner. Never Again.

Okay, so not only is this the best place I've had sushi in AR (and I've been to most all of the ones around town), but the presentation is amazing. The last time I went to Sekisui, when they gave me my order, I didn't know whether to eat it or take it home and hang it on my wall. I chose to eat. It was AWESOME!!!! I go every chance I get!
