Overall

I don't recommend buying a Lester Building at all. I bought one and just weeks ago had to pay an Amish Crew from Graber Buildings to come in and fix the mistakes and poor workmanship on it. I paid Lester Bldgs. extra for roof dripstop to be installed on the house portion of my bldg., but they shorted me and didn't install it on part of it, they also shorted me on 3/4" exterior plywood that I paid extra for and they incorrectly engineered the exterior of my bldg. I dealt mainly with the Lester Regional Manager who provided me with one of their Lester Bldg. Dealer/Builders and told me that he did "Good Work". It took them less than 10 days to build my bldg. and then they left town, just weeks later we had our first rain, at which time I noticed that I had 25 leaks in my roof, I had puddles all over inside my bldg. So I got up on my roof only to find that this Lester Dealer/Builder had installed the roof screws missing the purlins and some screws were too short. Before he left town he had told me that it would be a $500 minimum for him to come back so I ended up fixing these leaks myself. I found out later that it should not have cost me anything for him to come back. It took me 2 years to finish and move into my Lester Bldg. at which time we started noticing more serious problems, so I decided to have the Amish come in and check out my bldg. who found several problems with it. But before I paid the Amish to fix my Lester Bldg. I first called the Lester Regional Manager out and asked for help, this manager was shocked at my bldg. problems, but after he spoke with Lester Bldgs. Upper Management he said Lester Bldgs. feels no responsibility for what they called my "Building Issues" and would not be helping me, so I paid the Amish to come in and fix my Lester Bldg. and the following is what they found: 8 roof purlins not nailed at all, the Amish actually lifted one of them up and out to show me, which would explain why on windy nights it sounded like my roof was going to blow off. Gaps/Openings in my roof valleys where wind was blowing in and had blown my attic insulation away in those areas, cold air was also blowing into my furnace plentum/duct work and of course I'm sure rain was coming in too. A lot of my soffit only had one staple holding it on and when the staple tried going thru the steel it bent only allowing 3/8" to go into the facia board, which would explain the rattling we were hearing. Lester also used vented soffit on the gable ends which should have been solid soffit. Some facia boards were barely on the trusses and nails missing the truss, we had to sister nailers on the sides of some trusses. Facia cover not cut to fit properly causing the ends to dip down an inch. I also asked Lester Bldgs. if they could at least give me a discount on the soffit materials I needed to make the repairs, but again they said no. After I turned Lester Bldgs. into the Better Business Bureau they responded to my complaint by putting most of the blame on their Lester Bldgs. Dealer/Builder, you know, the one they recommended to me. This Lester Bldgs. Dealer/Builder name is C&C Construction, Willis Childress is the owner. So with all that I've had to repair on my Lester Bldg. I would not recommend buying one at all.

4/7/2015 Sales Manager C. Loger's 8-22-14 response to BBB: Lester Building Systems apologizes for any mis-communication on this project with Mr. Thompson, as it appears this maybe the case on a few of the listed issues. We also see there are differences of opinion including differences in design concepts. Lester engineers and designs buildings similar to Mr. Thompson's building on an ongoing bases. There clearly can be differences in designs or difference details on how to obtain a final solution as we see on this project with external plywood installation details, endwall vented vs. non-vented soffits to name a few. Mr. Thompson believes he is correct, and Lester Building Systems believe the details supplied for numerous years prior to Mr. Thompson's building and continue to supply on many buildings since are correct. This would be the case on items #2, 5 & 9. Lester Building Systems' warranty covers the structural integrity (lifetime), treated lumber (50 years) and paint system (40/30 years). All workmanship warranties do come directly from the contractor or installing dealer and are not warranted by Lester Building Systems. Lester Building Systems' past experience with C & C indicated that he did complete good work. This would be the case for items # 1, 3, 6, 7 & 10. In response to #3: Our communications with C&C wouldn't have indicated a $500 charge. C&C should have come back to repair roof leaks. In response to #8: The drip stop material is a moisture barrier for the roof. This does not preclude the need for any type of wind or vapor barriers on the walls. In our previous response, Lester Buildings didn't supply any exterior or interior wall finishes or vapor/air barriers. These were to be supplied by Mr. Thompson. Mr. Thompson may have supplied these types of vapor/air barriers on the building. In response to #9: As on the previous response, Lester Building Systems supplies vented soffits on all overhang soffit conditions. This has been a standard detail for years.
