The employee, unfortunately I did not get her name, acted like I was a waste of her time because I was using my credit card. I would describe her, but it would sound like a racist caricature. I just do not know how else to describe her or her attitude. I was not able to understand her when I was at the drive thru speaker, and had to ask her to repeat herself twice. The second time, she had a man come on and take the order. I could understand him and hear him perfectly well. I was told to pull around and get my total, which always puts up red flags to me. Nevertheless I pulled around. I had a coupon, printed out from their website directly. The same woman that I still could barely understand snatches the coupon and says "Where the expiration date?" Now I know this is a common question, but this occasion it was posed with tone and attitude like it was expired and or faked, and definitely a bother. Now I got my wallet out and started to take out my credit card. She looks back inside and says loudly, "Oh, and he has a credit card." Again, The statement itself is innocuous, but it was the tone and attitude that was the problem. I looked at her, and decided that I was done with her attitude and drove away from the window and parked in the parking lot. I got out my cell phone to call my wife and get the corporate number. While I was waiting on hold, which I never was able to talk to anyone, the employee and someone else started walking out to my car. I waved them away when she held up my coupon like I forgot it.
I say thank you to everyone, for everything. I have worked at crappy restaurant jobs for years. I started out as a dishwasher and moved all the way up to restaurant manager.I know it is a thankless job. I go out of my way to be polite to service/food industry employees. As long as they treat me, at the worst, with indifference. I know it is hard to be cheery and chipper with everyone. I don't ask that. Though I do not , under any circumstances, deserve to be treated like a bother when I use a service that a company offers. Like a coupon. Like a credit card transaction.
The saddest thing? I had just had Popeye's Chicken for the first time two weeks ago. I was so happy and in excited to get it again as a treat for Sunday dinner. I am so sad with the way I was treated, I will never eat at another Popeye's Chicken again. It might seem like an over reaction, but companies and employees need to realize there are plenty of other options available to consumers. We do not have to just idly sit by and accept whatever treatment they feel like giving us. It just might cost them a customer for life.
