This is the actual letter I wrote to corporate over an incident that happened this weekend:



My husband, myself and my 3 year old daughter visited your Lake Hopatcong, NJ 07849 store on Saturday, January 14th. Fresh pasta (the brand escapes me) was on sale, "buy one, get one free" since it was due to expire on the 15th. Each box also contained a 50% off coupon. We purchased two boxes and our cashier explained that the "rule in the back" is when a product is BOGO free, only one coupon can be used. I explained that this was not stated anywhere in the aisle/refriderated section, and the store manager was summoned.



An elderly man who never introduced himself came up and began telling me that I can't get things for free, repeating to me that I wasn't listening, insulting me with comments like, "I'm not yelling at you now, but I sure can start yelling at you", embarassing me in front of other customers, (so much so that one of our country's servicemen in fatigues gave me a sympathetic look as he passed.) When I explained to the store manager that there weren't any signs of the store's policy listed anywhere for customers to see, and furthermore, this product would by law need to be thrown away in only 5 hours due to the expiration date, and I was willing to purchase it at the reduced rate, he went on to continue to berate me in front of all the patrons about how I still wasn't listening to him, I can't get what I want, and getting very close to my face as he essentially yelled me in your store, etc.



As a woman who has been a lifelong shopper of Pathmark, I was mortified. I have never been treated like that in my life, and when I told your store manager I was going to pay for my groceries and not shop at the store again, he told me, "Good" and walked away.



I live in a town in which a new Stop and Shop just opened, and I chose, up until last night, to travel an additional 15 minutes to shop at your store, but unfortunately, due the horrible treatment I received last night, I can no longer justify that choice.



I work in the service industry and I follow the motto that the customer is always right. Your store manager at the Lake Hopatcong branch on the night of January 14th follows a motto much different. He embarassed me, berated me, and treated me in a way that NO ONE has ever treated me. He tried to make me look stupid in front of the crowd that formed and he did this in front of my 3 year old child and husband. Due to his lack of respect, you lost a customer willing to spending thousands of dollars per year over a $3.50 coupon.



I am still upset over the treatment I received.

Terrible

Poorest selection of produce...nearly everything I touched was rotten and moldy. Whole store is dirty. And who wants to bag their own groceries? They have these special lanes for customers who want to bag their own....I don't get it.
