For the most part, carpenter ants live in nests outside your home but make their way indoors in search of food, water and to set up satellite colonies. Whether you live in an older dwelling or a brand new home, carpenter ants can and will invade if the opportunity arises and may cause serious structural damages if left untreated. Entry points for foraging ants include...
Spiders
Arachnida. There are thought to be about 40,000 different species of spiders in the world, with about 3500 species being native to North America.
Termites
Sure, we have a giant termite sitting on our Providence headquarters that has become a State Icon. However, we do still consider termites pests and highly destructive ones at that. Left untreated, termite infestations can lead to serious and extensive damages to the structure of your home or business as well as the wood by-products contained within. In fact, it is estimated that termites are responsible for billions of dollars in damage each year. These are damages that are often not covered under homeowners insurance policies.
Bed Bugs
Not too long ago, bed bugs appeared to be eradicated from the United States. However, reports of bed bug infestations are on the rise and have become a major pest problem for homeowners in Providence and throughout Rhode Island as well as New England.
Fleas
Fleas do not have wings. Instead, they can jump up to 8 inches high, which would be about 150 times their height. This would be equivalent to an average human leaping over a skyscraper.
Cockroaches
The German cockroach is the most common pest cockroach species in the U.S. and reproduces faster than any of the other species.
Silverfish
Silverfish earn their name from both their color and their fish-like swimming movements when they scurry across the ground.
Bees
Carpenter bees are solitary insects, not social like bumblebees. They usually live on their own in tunnels that they bore into wood.
Wasps
Cicada killers are very interesting insects. This wasp species looks like an extremely large yellow jacket. They are one of the largest wasps. They can grow up to one and a half inches long with their long and segmented bodies. The head and middle segments are a rust color while the back segment is striped black and yellow. They have yellow-tinted wings and antenna. Their main goals are to mate and paralyze cicada bugs to feed their young. Males die shortly after mating and females die shortly after laying all her eggs.

Earwigs
Earwigs are most likely to enter your home in the fall, when they are searching for warm, dark, and moist hiding places.
Mosquitoes
Only the female mosquito bites; she needs the blood for producing eggs. Male mosquitoes feed solely on plant nectar.
Flies
Sanitation is a big issue for commercial facilities and unfortunately, the build-up of grease, fats and other organic material in drains creates ideal breeding grounds for insects and leads to infestations of flies and other pests common in commercial facilities. The good news is that Big Blue Bug Solutions provides professional drain cleaning services that are sure to help your company combat flies, odors and sanitation issues within your facility.
Centipedes
Contrary to what their name implies, centipedes do not have 100 legs. They may have as few as 20, or more than 350, but never 100.
Millipedes
When threatened, millipedes may release chemicals to repel predators. In some species, it is a foul smell. Others may burn or injure the predator.
Beetles
Saw toothed grain beetles are small insects that very commonly infest grain products in homes and businesses throughout Worcester, Providence, and all of New England. Some of their favorite meals include cereals, pasta, dried fruit, candies and nuts. Their name comes from the six saw-like projections on either side of their thorax.
Hornets
In the New England region baldfaced hornets are a prevalent pest problem during the warmer months and are also referred to as white faced hornets. Regardless of what you call them, what's more interesting is that this stinging insect isn't actually a hornet but rather a type of wasp. They build paper nests up in trees and will very aggressively defend their nests against anyone or thing that they perceive as a threat.
Yellow Jackets
Baldfaced hornets are larger than yellow jackets, the workers average about ¾ of an inch in length with the queens being a bit larger. Baldfaced hornets have a distinctive color pattern; they are black in color with a white head and 3 white strips on the back of their body.
Moths
A female moth may lay up to 300 eggs at a time, which begin to hatch within 14 days, making Indian meal moths an extremely difficult pest to eliminate.
Pantry Pests
Saw toothed grain beetle infestations are very hard to deal with due to the wide variety of products that they infest. In most cases, professional help is required. Contact Big Blue Bug Solutions today to find out more about the pantry pest treatment options we offer.

Mites
Bats do pose a serious threat to humans as they carry many pathogens and parasites that can be passed on. They are most known for being a carrier of rabies and their feces can introduce a fungus called histoplasmosis that can lead to lung disease. They will also introduce fleas, mites and bats bugs into your home.
Bats are a common wildlife problem that occurs throughout homes in Rhode Island and New England; they carry disease including rabies and therefore should be dealt with by bat control professionals. They look to homes to find a safe place roost in during the day, and then leave during the night to forage for food.
Raccoons
Raccoons are mammals that are part of the procyonid family. Raccoons are generally found outdoors in wooded areas near a water source; however they have become somewhat reliant on humans for food and have become a common problem in urban environments.
