We specialize in internal medicine and its sub-specialty endocrinology, which deals with disorders of the endocrine system. The endocrine system is a complex system of hormone-secreting glands.
Colon Cancer
Colon Cancer Screening: This tests the presence of blood in the stool. A positive test result should be discussed with a physician.
Prostate Cancer
Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA): The PSA is a screening test for prostate cancer. Please consult a physician if the result is above 4.0.

Our educators are primarily registered dieticians (RD), most are certified diabetes care and education specialists (CDCES), and some are also certified insulin pump trainers. Our education team is also involved in clinical research of leading-edge medications and devices, such as insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors.

Hypothyroidism
While in his fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology, Dr. Smith performed research to look at the different hormones of the adrenal gland and how they relate to premature adrenarche. He also leveraged the electronic medical record at Children’s Medical Center Dallas to review the treatment of children with congenital hypothyroidism. Other clinical interests include type 1 diabetes, disorders of puberty and growth, thyroid diseases, adrenal disorders, and calcium regulation.
Thyroid
He has a special interest in diabetes, adrenal conditions, thyroid disease, and endocrine effects of optic nerve hypoplasia, pubertal and growth disorders.
Thyroid Cancer
Carl Vance, M.D., specializes in the practice of endocrinology with a focus on diabetes and disease of the thyroid, including thyroid cancer. Dr. Vance was raised in Southwest Washington and began his studies at Brigham Young University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in economics. He then attended medical school at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at Legacy Portland (Oregon) Hospitals and completed his board certification in internal medicine. Dr. Vance has taken several specialized training courses and is an active participant in research studies.
