I have been to Landry's quite a few times in the last several weeks. I decided to celebrate my upcoming graduation with a friend at happy hour. So we get there, and I start a tab. Well, when I had my hand out to get my card back, the bartender tosses it on the counter in front of me. Throughout the evening, he gives barely mediocre service. As he's handing my friend her drink, the fruit garnish falls off, and he just leaves it there on the counter and doesn't replace it. Later on, we struck up a conversation with another patron sitting next to us. It turns out that he is in the same field that I am graduating in, so we have a rousing conversation for the next hour or so. So to congratulate me, he decided to pay our tab. This entire time, the bartender has been listening to and participating in our conversation. Eventually the patron leaves. As we are getting ready to leave ourselves, the bartender hands us both a bill. So I said that the patron was going to pay for it so why am I getting this? (Keep in mind, the bartender was a part of our conversation.) He then turns to me and says "when he said he would pay for it, he meant a drink for your friend and that's it." If I am celebrating my graduation, and he was only paying for 1 drink, why would he buy a drink for my friend? How does that make sense? So it turned into a back and forth argument between the bartender and my friend. He called the manager over who said there was nothing to be done. To avoid making the night any worse, I convinced my friend to pay her tab, I paid mine, and we left. It completely ruined my evening. Do not go to Landry's if Wilson is bar tending. He is rude and abrasive.

Good Seafood in Huntsville

I found myself this past weekend at the Hilton Garden Inn in Huntsville, just across the parking lot, and a small field was Landry's Seafood. Ended up eating their twice while in town. The food was good, the service was timely. Not a destination restaurant but good enough to go to more than once.

Generally friendly staff. Food was basically good w/ exception to the gumbo. I've eaten many kinds of gumbo. Sometimes, too gummy, too thick (not in the hearty, comforting sense), or too much of a non-pepper spice. Unless they've changed their recipe, this was one of only two restaurants I had to send the gumbo back to the kitchen. The other restaurant was Landry's in Pensacola, FL for the same following reason. I told the waiter, then the manager that the gumbo tasted like the rue was burned, leaving a nasty flavor to the gumbo that was overpowering. I was proudly told that it was Landry's "Burnt Butter Rue". I am mildly familiar with "beurre meuniere" (brown butter sauce), which has a pleasant nut like flavor. This gumbo at Landry's was plain out nasty. The rest of the food we had was pretty good & I can't steer you away from a Landry's. If you've never had gumbo before, I recommend you asking first if the rue is "burnt butter", if so just order something else.
