Worst buffet ever........My family and I decided to do brunch this morning. We thought if we get an early start the food "should be fresh!" Wrong!!! This is the worst Chinese buffet restaurant in the area. It was only 11:30am and the food was cold and stale. It was as if they used left over food from last night. The rice, chicken, ribs, noodles and bread were all cold. Yuck!!

When we addressed this to the manager/hostess she stated; "whatever, no one else is complaining." She was really rude. We told her that we were not happy with the meal, she once again shrugged her shoulders and stated; "too bad, I don't care, you should of eat the food on the bottom." I can't believe the lack of customer service in that restaurant. I was not looking for a "free" meal, just acknowledgement of my concerns. Yes, we still paid our $37 tab, because the workers need to be paid.

Never again China Ko......Atascocita residents, stay away!!

I expected better, but was disappointed.

My family ate at China Ko for dinner the first week after it opened on FM1960. I've eaten at other China Ko locations, so knew what to expect. This one really needs help to get better.

First, the wait staff was really poor. Maybe we just had a bad waiter, but we had to flag him down several times just to get drinks refilled. The other waiters too seemed under-trained or just lacking any motivation to take care of customers.

The buffet has plenty to offer, but you'll have to be picky. My wife tried their sweet & sour chicken, but couldn't finish it. Why did they put so much ginger in sweet & sour chicken? It tasted funny. The General Tso's chicken is normally my favorite when it is sticky, sweet and hot, but China Ko's flavors were just off. The sauce was runny and it just wasn't well made. I tried the egg rolls... big mistake. Now I know what they do with yesterday's left-over food. I swallowed my first bite, then put it down.

We tried the sushi bar, which is small and not very many choices. It was OK, but not even the same quality you find pre-made at most grocery stores. If this is your first time eating sushi, then you obviously won't notice the difference. If you just want to try it a little, then fine too... but if you really like sushi, then you'll be disappointed.

OK, enough with the bad. There were several dishes on the buffet that were actually good. I liked their fried fish and shrimp. The Lo-Mein was pretty good. I liked that they had a wok chef at the food bar making fresh items.

Some things I'd like to suggest for China Ko, because I'd really like to go back some time after they improve (if I can convince my wife & kids to give them another try); I don't care if you put yesterday's shrimp or pork in your egg rolls... try adding fresh shredded cabbage and fresh carrots to that. It's cheap and will give it a much better flavor. The poor taste isn't from the meat, but from the stale wilted vegetables re-heated.

Keep up with the sushi bar, but add a little bit to it. Try adding Tomago, which is the sweet egg topped sushi. Try offering a little seaweed salad.

Retrain the wait staff. If they check on each of their tables once every 5-7 minutes, even walking by to glance at the table... that would help. If they don't want to do their jobs, then replace them with someone more motivated.

The food bar is OK, but not any better than that. Start with focusing on just 2 dishes per week and really try to do them well. Then next week, pick a different 2 dishes. First week, I'd do the egg rolls. I'd say that 50% of the dishes on the food bar are pretty good, so leave those alone. It doesn't take long to spot the dishes that aren't so good. Keep the good, work on the OK items later... but eliminate poor dishes one at a time and each week make progress.

I hope China Ko on FM1960 gets their act together. It is close by and I'd like to see them do well like their other locations. It will be hard to get my family to come back simply because our first experience was lousy.
