You will receive a thorough home inspection from our residential pest control specialists because even the tiniest crack can provide an entry point for pests. We inspect your home’s interior and exterior which includes your attic, basement and crawl spaces.
Commercial Pest Control
Even the cleanest buildings and spaces have pest control problems. Carpenter ants, cockroaches and rodents can easily enter undetected via cardboard boxes, pallets, pipe intrusions, vents as well as hidden cracks and holes. Spotting one type of pest can mean there may be others you cannot see. While some over-the-counter sprays and traps can kill some pests, eliminating the source generally requires a specialized commercial pest control expert.
We have all seen the amazing traits that ants, in general, possess. With incredible strength a single ant can lift more than 100 times its body weight. In addition the ant’s body can support up to 5,000 times its weight. Ants have the ability to communicate via chemical pheromones. The ability to communicate gives the ant community phenomenal organizational abilities which allow them to work together. In a very short time a colony of ants can build or rebuild an ant mound. Ants actually conduct war against other ant colonies in the same way. The ant is a truly incredible insect.
Spiders
Mud daubers are solitary insects and prefer sheltered sites like eaves, porch overhangs, attics, barns, and sheds. If the mud tube nests have holes in them, this usually means the insects have emerged and the tubes are old or inactive. Female mud daubers deposit their eggs on spiders that have been injected with venom. These spiders are placed in the mud tubes then plastered over. The egg develops, spins a cocoon, and emerges from the mud tube the following spring.
Termites
Each year termites cause more than $2 billion in damage to homes, businesses and warehouses across the country. Effectively preventing and controlling termites can be a difficult and complex process. Termites have survived for millions of years with veracious appetites and they quickly adapt to changing environments. The only way to lower your home or facility’s risk of termite infestation is employing ongoing professional protection and prevention. The small expense now could save you thousands of dollars later.
Bed Bugs
Bed bugs are flat, reddish-brown, oval wingless insects about 3/16 inch long (or the size of an apple seed) that belong to the Cimicidae family. They hide in cracks and crevices including mattress seams, sheets, furniture, baseboards and electrical outlet plates. Often found in hotels where they can travel from room to room and in visitors’ luggage. Females can lay between one and five eggs each day and may lay 200-500 eggs in their lifetime. In normal room temperatures, and with adequate food supply, they can live for more than 300 days. Bed bugs are difficult to detect, but are often found close together and have a distinctive sweet, but unpleasant, smell. Blood spotting on mattresses and nearby furnishings are one of the most common signs of a bed bug infestation. Their bites leave itchy welts on the skin and can cause allergic reactions that include severe itching. Bed bugs are distributed worldwide due to human travelers transporting luggage, clothing, bedding and furniture.
Fleas
Fleas are tiny, wingless insects that can jump as far as one foot. They ordinarily live on pets and suck blood for nourishment, but they sometimes feed on people. Pets infested with fleas scratch and bite themselves constantly, producing soiled, roughened coats and skin irritations. A fleabite on humans appears as a small, hard, red itching spot with one central puncture hole.
Cockroaches
If you are involved in food production, packaging or distribution you will likely have spills and messes that attract ants, cockroaches, rodents and other pests. We can schedule a routine service so you don’t have to worry about the problems and liabilities that pests bring.
Bees
Wasps
Paper wasps are easily identified by their nest—a round, upside-down paper cone that hangs from a horizontal surface in a protected location. Most paper wasp nests are located in exposed areas beneath soffits, in the corners of windows, under awnings, under porches and beneath decks. Paper wasps often enter attics through holes in the soffits, attic vent screens and underneath shingles.
Ticks
Like mosquitoes, ticks are vectors, or transmitters, of disease. Though extremely serious, mosquito-borne disease affects only a few thousand individuals in the US each year, while tick-borne disease afflicts tens of thousands.
Mosquitoes
Zika virus is primarily spread by the bites of Aedes species mosquito that is infected with the virus. Infection from the virus can cause Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a nervous system illness, as well as birth defects in pregnant women. Our Pest control service can prevent spread of the Zika virus by exterminating and preventing mosquitoes near your house. Our technicians have the experience and knowledge necessary to help control mosquitos near your house and help prevent the spread of Zika virus to you and your loved ones.
Flies
Males and females feed on nectar. Male black flies do not bite, but females of most species must feed on blood to produce eggs. Some prefer to bite one type of host. Some species bite people in certain locales, but do not bite in other parts of the species’ range.
Beetles
The family of beetles known as Coccinellidae has many similar looking, multicolored species. Multicolored Asian Lady Beetles are about ¼ inch (7mm) in length and can appear in a large spectrum of color combinations. Colors can range from yellow to orange to the classic red with blacks spots (the classic “Ladybug”). The variability of appearance in the adults can mislead people to think they are different species.
Yellow Jackets
Knock’Em Out Pest Control can rid your property of yellow jackets. Yellow jackets will often make their homes in soft soil, rotten trees, gutters, hay or piles of wood. While these locations are bad it is worse when yellow jackets make their nest inside your home. We will find and eradicate the nest and take care of your yellow jacket problem.
Stink Bugs
Stinging Insects
If nests are already established, your technician may treat each individual nest then scrape the nest off the building with a putty knife. Mud daubers are beneficial in that they control spider populations, but can be a nuisance once they establish nests. A preventative barrier can be applied to the exterior of your home to prevent stinging insects from building nests on your building.
Aphids
Many species of Coccinellidae exist in the US and Canada. Most Asian Lady Beetles are beneficial insects; several species have been imported to the Americas to control crop pests. The Asian Lady Beetle feeds primarily on aphids, mealybugs and scale insects. In the fall these beetles gather in large numbers in preparation to hibernate through the winter. They will typically gather on light-colored houses, buildings and other surfaces. If there are entry points in a house, the Asian Lady Beetle will enter to hibernate through the winter months. In the spring they will emerge and begin feeding on aphids and other garden pests.
Gnats
Also known as buffalo gnats because of their humpbacked appearance, black flies(Simuliidae) are small (up to one-eighth of an inch long) dark flies that typically appear in late spring and early summer when they swarm and bite birds and mammals, including domestic animals and people.
Boxelder Bugs
Throughout Michigan, including the entire Livingston County area, black and red bugs have been a nuisance for the past several years. During the summer months Leptocoris trivittatus, or the Boxelder bug, feeds on the flowers and seedpods of boxelder, maple and ash trees. In the fall and winter months the Boxelder bug will look for a dry warm place. Your home is prime real estate for these and other bugs looking to get out of the cold. They are generally found in concentration on the south and west sides of your home. Boxelder bugs do not lay eggs indoors, feed on fabrics or get into human food stores, but they may be an annoyance. Compared to other bugs they are better house guests.

They are 2.5 to 3.5 inches long and usually weigh less than 1 ounce. The House Mouse is gray in color with small eyes, large ears, and a tail as long as its body. They have poor vision, but an excellent sense of hearing, touch, smell, and taste. They are good climbers, swimmers, runners, and jumpers.

Did you know that Norway Rats are the largest commensal rodent, or, a rodent that lives with and depends upon man for his existence? They are normally the only type of rat found in populated areas. They may be called alley rats, city rats, or river rats. They are common in the temperate zones of the world and can be found all over North America. They are 7 to 9 inches long, weighing 7 to 18 ounces. They can be identified by their blunt noses, small eyes and small ears.
