Routine dental maintenance is performed on all resident horses, ensuring the benefits from comfortable feed consumption, and, therefore, optimal nutritional intake. Under veterinary supervision, both power equipment and hand tools are available for use, depending upon each individual case, and sedatives are properly administered when needed. Dental care is available to outside horses by appointment.

The Four Sixes Ranch offers a paid internship for undergraduate college students looking to advance their knowledge and skill in the equine industry, with the potential for full-time employment if available. Whether you are interested in applying to vet school, or simply learning more of the basics of general care, reproduction, foaling, doctoring, vaccinations and sale prep of horses; this is an internship you should consider. You will get a tremendous amount of hands-on experience and on-the-job training.
The health of the animals is of utmost importance. The ranch does not cut corners with vaccinations and control of external and internal parasites. Because of the ranch’s attention to herd health, there is less need for doctoring and the use of antibiotics. If, and when, cattle need to be treated with antibiotics, they receive an ear notch. Those marked individuals are disqualified from the All-Natural Program but are still qualified for the premium NHTC Program.
Full work-ups are available for evaluating lamenesses and providing proper treatment, including leg wound care. In addition to digital x-ray capabilities, our facilities allow for appropriate evaluation even in inclement weather. With a large horse population on site, we have “seen it all” regarding lamenesses and welcome outside cases.
