Lowcountry Pediatrics

My son has seen Dr. Pogue since he was born. I love them. Awesome doctors! The faculty are wonderful. Very professionally and caring.

I had a baby boy January 16th of 2010 and decided to go to Dr. Pogue's office for his check-up 2 days after being discharged from the hospital. I chose this office due to their close proximity to my house. I made an appointment to see Dr. Pogue, but when I was put in a room, I was told she was not in the office and the nurse would be conducting the entire exam. I was extremely disappointed that I was not even meeting the doctor that I was supposedly going to be bringing my child to for the next 18 years! The nurse was extremely abrupt and told me she "was not happy" with my baby's weight loss, although I was told by the hospital that it was normal for him to lose weight and was later told by another pediatrician that this was nothing to be concerned about as long as he regained it after 2 weeks. When I asked her simple questions about breastfeeding, she told me she didn't know much about that and would refer me to a breastfeeding consultant, who later called me and wanted to schedule a consultation that I would have to pay for. I didn't have many questions for this being my first baby, but the ones I asked were either not answered at all or answered with an attitude. I walked away feeling like I was not doing a good job taking care of my child! I quickly called my OB, who reassured me that I was doing an excellent job breastfeeding and referred me to Parkwood Pediatrics. They are about 20 minutes away, but it is worth the trip because they are excellent and MUCH more knowledgeable. I would not recommend this office to anyone and am so glad I decided to seek a better pediatrician's office. In regards to Dr. Pogue herself, I can neither complain about nor compliment her since I never saw her, but I feel it speaks volumes that she wasn't there when I scheduled an appointment to see her and that she would employ such a curt, unpleasant, and clueless nurse. I would give this office no stars, but I had to click at least one!
