Colon Cancer
Comes to us from our sister hospital from Brandon, MS. His vast experience includes postings at practices throughout the South including Grandview Medical Center and academic postings at William Carey University & Merit Health. Many varied publications and presentations of Dr. Nordness's cover colon cancer and laparoscopic & vascular surgeries. He has been in practice at The Surgery Clinic, LLC since January 2, 2018.

- Operations on the Thyroid and Parathyroid glands are common General Surgical procedures. We provide many endocrine treatments and with our "in office ultrasound" we are able to treat patients here and often avoid surgery.

The Surgery Clinic, LLC is the oldest General Surgery practice in Etowah County. It was originally started by Dr. Joe Denson in 1958. Dr. Lucian Newman Jr. came to Gadsden in 1968 and the practice continued to grow with the addition of Dr. Lucian Newman III in 1993, Dr. Charles L. Newman in 1995 and Dr. Paul J. Nordness in 2018. Our surgeons are Board Certified with The American Board of Surgery. We are also represented by members of The Fellows of the American College of Surgeons.
Robotic Surgery
Surgeons in Etowah County who are trained to and perform ALL forms of Advanced Laparoscopic surgery including Laparoscopic Colon Surgery, Laparoscopic Fundoplication Surgery, Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS), and Laparoscopic Robotic Surgery.
Laparoscopy
- With the advent of laparoscopy we are able to perform your cholecystectomy with minimal pain and scarring. Many times we perform Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS) where we are able to remove your gallbladder with only a 1 cm. incision. If you are having upper abdominal pain and have not had an utrasound of your gallbladder we are able to evaluate you and do the ultrasound here in our office.

Laparoscopic Surgery
Was born in Birmingham and grew up here in Gadsden. He attended the University of Alabama School of Medicine and completed his surgical residency in Atlanta. Dr. Newman, III has been involved in teaching laparoscopic surgery since 1990. He has published over 25 articles and 5 textbook chapters on related subjects. He has traveled both domestically and internationally to speak and instruct other surgeons on various aspects of laparoscopic surgery. He has served on the BC/BS physicians advisory for the past 9 years. He has served as the Chief Of Staff and Chief of Surgery at Riverview Regional Medical Center and on the advisory board at Gadsden Regional Medical Center and the Gadsden Surgery Center. He is the founder of ComplyMD a medical coding / documentation software

Skin Cancer
- Living in the South you are exposed to high levels of ultraviolet radiation. We would be happy to evaluate and treat any skin lesion you may find. We can diagnose and treat all forms of skin cancer including melanoma, squamous cell cancers and basal cell cancers. We are also able to treat many "benign" skin lesions such as warts, skin tags, and fatty tumors.
