I am absolutely appalled at Randy's. We arrived around 6:30 for a celebratory dinner; my parents had just bought a new house to be closer to me and my husband. We were seated promptly but waited significantly for a waitress. I'd called ahead because I have a very serious nut allergy and was assured by the owner that they could accommodate us. I always take this as an indication that they want my business and the responsibility that comes with it; I never hold it against a restaurant if they feel they can't but assume they'll tell me upfront. I re-confirmed with the waitress and the owner when I arrived just to make sure they were on board. In any case...

We ordered some apps and wine. It took a couple of tries on the wine because they were out of things - not really a big deal but it's nice when the servers are educated on things like that. The stuffed jalapenos were undercooked but we were enjoying each others' company so we stayed. Salads were good, then ... a huge pause of maybe two hours or more. About halfway through, the waitress explains that they have no more lobster so we recalibrate our order (again, you'd think she'd know when she put the order in, not over an hour later). That said, I usually cut restaurants some slack when my food takes longer because I assume they're just being careful.

After about 3 hours of waiting for our meal, they bring out the food. The asparagus has VISIBLE ALMONDS all over it. Since I obviously can't trust the kitchen now (I mean, if this is something I can SEE then it's too risky to stay and see what hidden nuts could be in something), we ask to leave. The waitress pleads with us not to go and says she GUARANTEES all our food will be safe (which is definitely a little late at this point -- if she can't see giant almond slivers all over the asparagus before she brings it to the table, her guarantee doesn't mean much). We tip her for her time and are out the door to head to Pei Wei for dinner (a restaurant that uses tons of nuts but just gets it when it comes to food allergies).

Food allergies are more and more common and, in general, things have improved since I was younger. This is most true at upscale or finer dining establishments (but almost everywhere else as well). I expected that, at those prices, the kitchen could handle basic food safety but clearly no. This is a dangerous failure of communication that could end with someone in the hospital or dead. I will never, ever go back. If you have any food sensitivities, steer clear. They do NOT get it, even when you explain it to them.

And sadly, aside from the serious error, the 2.5 hour wait for our entrees was completely unacceptable. No drink refills, no one pouring wine. This place is awful.

Disappointed

My wife and I have eaten at Randy's twice and came away with the same feeling - disappointment. The atmosphere is very nice and the location is unique. The food was average but, when you consider the price charged, it was a bad value.

At one time, it was the only reasonable option to get a decent steak dinner in Frisco. However, with the roads built out, I would much rather drive 15 minutes and get a much better dinner with better service at 3 Forks or Bob's.
