Arthritis
In some instances, PIDD targets specific and/or multiple organs, glands, cells and tissues. For example, heart defects are present in some PIDDs. Other PIDDs alter facial features, some stunt normal growth and still others are connected to autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis.
Sinusitis
Acute sinusitis refers to sinusitis symptoms lasting less than four weeks. Most cases begin as a common cold. Symptoms often go away within a week to 10 days; however, in some people, a bacterial infection develops.

Patients with HMO, PPO, POS, or other managed care plans are responsible to follow the rules and guidelines provided by that plan. Some plans require verbal referrals, referral forms, or referral numbers for services provided by a specialist which the patient must obtain from their primary care physician prior to their visit. Fort Wayne Allergy and Asthma Consultants specializes in a full scope of allergic disorders, including nasal allergies, sinus conditions, asthma, food allergies, sleep disorders, eczema, hives, acid reflux, stinging insect allergy, and anaphylaxis. We are currently the only center in Indiana that offer Oral Immunutherapy (OIT) treatment for food allergies.
Emergency Care
A biologic is used for patients who continue to have symptoms despite use of standard daily controller medications. Symptoms of poorly controlled asthma include frequent coughing, wheezing, or shortness of breath; waking up at night with difficulty breathing; requiring a fast-acting reliever medication, such as albuterol, several times a day or week; and recurrent hospital admissions, emergency room visits, or need for oral steroids for exacerbations. Before prescribing a biologic, your doctor should make sure you are taking your other controller medications as instructed, avoiding any potential triggers for your asthma, and treat any other associated medical conditions that could be making your asthma worse.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Individuals who have experienced an allergic reaction after ingestion of a food AND also have shown evidence of the allergy to that food on skin and/or blood testing. OIT only treats food allergies that are caused by the IgE allergic antibody. Individuals who lack this antibody on a skin or blood allergy test, will not benefit from OIT. It is not effective or intended for the treatment of food intolerances, Celiac disease, Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE), or Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
Immunizations
The immune system is composed of white blood cells. These cells are made in the bone marrow and travel through the bloodstream and lymph nodes. They protect and defend against attacks by "foreign" invaders such as germs, bacteria and fungi. Antibodies are proteins that are made in response to infection or immunization and help fight infections. Complement is another blood protein that plays a protective role in the immune system.

Endoscopy
Currently the only way to diagnose EoE is with an endoscopy and biopsy of the esophagus. An endoscopy is a medical procedure that lets your doctor see what is happening in your esophagus. During a biopsy, tissue samples will be taken and analyzed.

It also describes your rights to access and control your protected health information. “Protected health information” is information about you, including demographic information, that may identify you and that relates to your past, present or future physical or mental health or condition and related health care services.

Computed Tomography
Allergy testing performed by an allergist can identify what allergic triggers might be behind your chronic or reoccurring sinus infections. A CT scan of the sinuses may be ordered to look for abnormalities in the sinuses. If allergies are causing the sinus problems, treating the allergies by avoiding triggers or with medications or allergy shots can help prevent recurrences of sinusitis. Environmental control measures such as avoiding allergens are very important for people with rhinitis triggered by indoor allergens such as dust mites, molds or animal dander. This treatment strategy can prevent the need for surgery or prevent recurrence of disease after surgery.
Chemotherapy
Some immunodeficiency disorders are not primary (hereditary or genetic). A secondary immune deficiency disease occurs when the immune system is compromised due to an environmental factor. Examples of these external causes include infection (HIV), medications (chemotherapy or systemic steroids), severe burns or malnutrition.

Eczema
Eczema, also called atopic dermatitis, is a common allergic skin disease that usually starts in early childhood. It can be associated with infection (bacteria, fungi, yeast and viruses) of the skin. Half of patients with moderate to severe eczema also suffer from asthma, hay fever (allergic rhinitis), and food allergies.
Fungus
Chronic sinusitis, also referred to as chronic rhinosinusitis, is often diagnosed when symptoms have gone on for more than 12 weeks, despite medical treatment. People with allergic rhinitis or asthma are more likely to suffer from chronic sinusitis. This is because the airways are more likely to become inflamed when allergic rhinitis or asthma are present. Sinusitis may also be caused by an infection, a fungus, deviated nasal septum, nasal polyps or in rare cases an immune system deficiency.

Biologic medications are newer anti-inflammatory medications that have been approved for other allergic diseases, such as asthma, as well as for other skin conditions, such as psoriasis.

Allergies
Allergy tests, combined with the knowledge of your allergy specialist to interpret them, can give precise information about what you are and are not allergic to. For instance, if you wheeze when you are at home and don't know why, you don't have to get rid of your cat if your allergy testing shows you are allergic to dust mites but not cats. With this information, you and your allergist can develop a treatment plan to manage or even eliminate your symptoms.
