Cannoli Pastry

Went for the first time. Ambiance was fantastic! I love what they've done with the building, keeping the hardwoods and the interior as it is - its very charming for downtown west Dearborn. Their cases are full of a great selection of colorful cookies, mouth-watering pastries, beautiful cakes and a great variety of hand scooped bucket ice creams. We chose a variety of items to take home; the red velvet, bumpy cake and oreo cupcakes, the individual white cannoli cake, a mousse pop and a cronut with mini-chocolate chips on top and a whipped creme mousse in the center.

Negatives: One of my children, who isn't picky at all when it comes to sweets of any kind, did not like the thick ("spoiled") taste from the frosting of one of the cupcakes. I brushed it off initially because I didn't try it, but as I ate my cronut - my very first, I might add, I pulled it apart in layers - I couldn't help but notice that the very bottom layer tasted like dirt. But, it was more like the moldy bread that is just starting when you can't see the mold, but you sure can taste it. I inspected it all over, I didn't see anything. I tried it again to be sure and I tossed it out. So, they're getting 3 stars for their products not being as fresh as they should be. To be an upscale pastry shop and charge as much as they do (almost $24 for our 6 items!!) they need to toss or donate their older goods instead of keeping them until its costs them a negative review and business. I'll definitely try them again in the future, but make sure to ask for the freshest product.
