Lerro's Candies

My review starts when my Dad was in the army and my mom and my Aunt Carmella worked in the soda fountain in Lerros on Broad St. My dad was in the shipyard on Broad Street and came in the store to buy candie. Handsome man my beautiful mom Erminia Pietrolungo fell in love with John. Aunt Carm fell in love with Pasquale Lerro, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lerro. Wiithin a year Mom married, dad was from California but they stayed in Philadelphia. They soon bought the factory in Darby Pa. and turned the Brownstone into a store and home. They were building homes in Darby and Pat told John and Mom and Dad bought 423 Coventry Ave. I was born there , number four. My Mom died two year's ago and I miss her, John is 91 and doing fine. My dear Uncle Pat just passed away last summer. He always brought us chocolate airplane's for Easter and my sister had a baby buggy made of chocolate. Every Easter my Godfather would be getting out of his truck and walking up with the goodie's. We used to go to the factory and we were in heaven. He was a great Uncle and my heart is broken that Pasquale left. My cousin John took over the factory and hopefully his son John Pasquale will someday do the same. Aunt Carm is fine but sad and my heart feels for her. He loved his Toot's. A beautiful love story Lerros Candies is great candie, they had the first chocolate pretzels. My Aunt is very meticulous and place is spotless along with her Louis IV style home above the store. Try it, you'll be back. Frank Antony Collette
