Pediatric Care
Sarah Kenis is a Nurse Practitioner that is board certified in dermatology and pediatrics. She has been with Children’s Skin Center since June of 2020. With a focus on medical and aesthetic dermatology, Sarah specializes in treating a broad range of skin conditions. Through a holistic and integrative approach, Sarah’s main goal is to help all patients achieve optimal skin health.
Primary Care
If your insurance is an HMO/managed care plan and you are required to obtain a referral from your primary care physician, the referral must be obtained before you can be seen for an office visit. Please coordinate this with your primary care physician in advance. Appointments will be rescheduled if required referrals are not received in the office by the time of your visit.
Family Practice
Dr. Usmani earned her undergraduate degree in biology at the University of Miami, and went on to earn her doctor of osteopathic medicine degree at Nova Southeastern University in 2003, completing family practice and dermatology residencies and an internship, and serving as Chief Resident in dermatology at Columbia Hospital. Dr. Usmani currently trains general and pediatric dermatology residents at Nova Southeastern University and Miami’s Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.

Vitiligo affects approximately 1 in 50 people. While the exact cause is unknown, vitiligo may be an autoimmune response, as it has been found to occur with other autoimmune conditions, including thyroid disease. Around 20% of those with vitiligo have a family member with vitiligo, which suggests that heredity may play a role. Vitiligo affects every patient differently, and it may go through any number of cycles in which a period of pigment loss is followed by a period in which there is no change. There is no way to predict or control the progression of the condition.

Acne Treatment

Under Dr. Duarte’s direction, The Children’s Skin Center’s highly qualified team provides dermatology care that addresses the needs of each individual family member. With board certification in dermatology and pediatric dermatology, residency training in both dermatology and pediatrics, fellowship training in pediatric dermatology, and over 25 years of experience in the practice of dermatology and pediatric dermatology, Dr. Duarte is uniquely qualified to offer comprehensive skin care solutions for the entire family.

In our laser center, Dr. Duarte treats all types of vascular birthmarks such as port wine stains, hemangiomas, and other vascular lesions using the pulse-dye laser. She also treats surgical scars, dog bite scars, and keloids with the pulse-dye laser and fraxel laser. In addition, she uses the yag and alexandrite laser for hair removal. At both the Nicklaus Children's Hospital office and the Coral Gables office, she uses the excimer laser to treat psoriasis, vitiligo, eczema and other inflammatory skin conditions. Dr. Duarte uses the CO2 laser to treat epidermal nevi. We now offer skin tightening and resurfacing with the Morpheus radiofrequency micro needling device.
