My boyfriend and I just adopted two cats from this shelter and we had a absolutely wonderful experience. All of the employees were very kind and I could tell that they truly cared about all of the animals that were in their care. I would certainly recommend anyone to this shelter.. I did not experience any of the negativity that the other reviews commented on. As for the two weeks in-processing... They allowed us to take a cat that was not yet in the system. I think that this makes sense... Why not allow the opportunity for a animal to go to a everlasting home simply because their two week waiting period is not over... There are exceptions to rules on purpose. Please visit this shelter, I can attest to the fact that there are many lovely dogs and cats that are seeking and deserving of a good home!

I adopted a very nice small breed dog from the BWAHS. The staff was friendly and personable. The premises absolutely immaculate. I would not hesitate to seek a companion animal from this shelter.

I suspect there is "more to the story" then what previous derogatory comments reveal. Once a pet is surrendered to any animal welfare organization you sign away any rights to the pet.

I had to get rid of a puppy we...

I had to get rid of a puppy we had because my landlord said we could have it if no one complained and the neighbors who were bad neighbors anyways did. so it was get her out or get evicted. i took her to this place and they told me she would be held for 2 weeks for shots and such. well after i dropped her off there and my heart broken child was screaming about it i spoke with my land lord and he said we could keep her. so my husband walked there to get her back, and i even called them and they said it would be fine. when he got there they would not give her to him nor would they let him see her and i was at work that day. i called when i got home and they told me she had been placed. what happened to the 2 weeks holding period. i still dont believe that, i think they put her down. she was a Pit,Chihuahua, Schnauzer mix, weird i know, and when i told the 3 ladies that they stuck their noses up. i had a bad feeling the whole way home and should have gone back for her but didnt and i wish i did. i will never take an animal there again i would rather be evicted. they were all out rude and wouldnt even let my daughter hug the dog and say good bye. so my advice would be to never go to that place, keep your pets or take them somewhere else but not there.

OMG ! ! We took a sweet, beaut...

OMG ! ! We took a sweet, beautiful, stray burmese cat to the Blue Water Area Humane Society ! They said that they had to quarantine him for 2 weeks before he would be adoptable, We called 3 days later to see how this loveable little guy was doing and were told that a worker took the paper work home & they wouldn't have it back for another 2 weeks. We thought this was highly suspicious so we went back to the shelter 3 days later and we were told that one of the volunteers adopted him but that she wouldn't be back for 2 weeks. What happened to the cat's 2 week quarantine?? When we asked several questions we were given a complete run around ! We just called today and spoke to the person that supposedly adopted this cat and she was very evasive, said that she probably adopted him out. She asked for the receipt # and then put us on hold, after a few minutes another woman got on the phone and said that the first person wasn't available, I said that I would hold for the her and then was told "Ok, goodbye". We were ASSURED that this Humane Society would not euthanize unless the animal was terribly ill. In my opinion, we have nothing to show that this beautiful, young animal was not euthanized, sold, or God knows what else ! TO ANYONE READING THIS, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE ANY ANIMAL TO THIS LOCATION ! ! YOU WILL GET NOTHING BUT THE RUN AROUND AND IN MY OPINION WILL NEVER KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR ANIMAL!

I had a run-in with this wonde...

I had a run-in with this wonderful establishment 20+ yrs ago. Aparently, the same people must still work there. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT take any stray animals that you find to this place. when I dropped off a little kitten I found wandering around at my workplace, I tool it there. The first words out of their mouths were.."And, you would like to donate how much?" i have tried for 3 days to get in touch with them to see if the kitty was placed. All I get is an answering machine. When I brought the kitty in, I said, "You're not going to put her down are you/"

All three of the employees present just laughed. They just laughed. Please people..keep your animals that you find or find homes for them yourselves. The Humane Society of the Blue Water Area. Nothing HUMANE about them. I wrote a letter to the Times Herald years ago, and they published it. Apparently the Society had so many somplaints against them, that they called me back for an interview.

Nasty people

Here we were willing to pay $100 for a cat and they put us through the 3rd degree. I can understand the questions, wanting a pet to go to a good home, but the woman who asked them was SO very snotty. We were turned down for some obscure reason, and that animal couldn't have had a better home than one here. So, now we'll find a FREE kitten. They can take their smug, superior attitude and shove it.
