Labor and Delivery
The fertilized egg develops a placenta to receive nourishment from the mother and an embryonic sac that surrounds the embryo. The embryo develops vital organ systems and grows into a fetus. The fetus continues to develop and increase in size. After about nine months, the baby is born through vaginal birth or cesarean section.

Bladder Cancer
There are several underlying conditions that appear to be associated with overactive bladder. Conditions that affect the urinary tract may contribute to overactive bladder, for example urinary tract infections, inflammation, structural abnormalities, an enlarged prostate in men, bladder cancer, and bladder stones. Neurological conditions including Parkinson’s disease, stroke, and multiple sclerosis can contribute to overactive bladder. People with diabetes or those who consume excess alcohol or caffeine may develop overactive bladder.

Ovarian Cancer

Cervical Cancer
A pelvic examination is a short, yet very important procedure. Pelvic examinations are used to check for normal female reproductive development, test for infections or sexually transmitted diseases, and screen for abnormal growths or cells. A pelvic examination appointment is a good time to discuss problems or concerns about your period, birth control, and preventing sexually transmitted disease. It is also a good time to receive a breast examination or schedule a mammogram if indicated. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommend that girls should first visit a gynecologist between the ages of 13 and 15. Cervical cancer screening (Pap smear) should be done during your pelvic exam starting at age 21, and should be repeated once every 3 years.
Colon Cancer
Menopause is a normal and healthy part of a female’s life. You should contact your doctor if you experience symptoms that bother you. Blood tests can measure your hormones to determine if you are experiencing menopause. Women of menopausal age should receive an annual physical examination including a breast exam, pelvic exam, pap smear, mammogram, and cholesterol test. You should also discuss your risk factors and receive screening for heart disease, colon cancer, and bone density loss.

An infection in the urethra or bladder is termed a “lower urinary tract infection.” An infection in the urethra is called “urethritis.” An infection in the bladder is called “cystitis.” The infection may spread through the urinary tract to the ureters and kidneys. An infection in this area is termed an “upper urinary tract infection.” An infection of the kidneys is called “pyelonephritis.” In general, the higher the location of the infection, such as the kidneys, the more serious it is.

A transvaginal ultrasound uses a transmitting device that is placed in the vagina to provide detailed images.
MRI
An IVP uses X-rays and contrast dye to check for cancer or blockages in the urinary tract. A chest X-ray can reveal cancer that has spread to the lungs. A cystoscopy uses a thin viewing instrument to examine the bladder for cancer. A proctoscopy uses a lighted camera device to check for cancer in the rectum. CT scans take pictures of the organs from different angles, and MRI scans take pictures with even more details.

An ultrasound is an outpatient examination that may be performed in a doctor’s office, the radiology department of a hospital, or an imaging center. You may be asked to drink several glasses of water an hour before your test. A full bladder helps to create a good image. You should not urinate before your test.

Laparoscopy

Reconstructive Surgery
For more advanced stages of cervical cancer, the uterus may need to be removed with a simple hysterectomy. A radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymph node dissection removes the uterus, nearby tissues, the upper part of the vagina, and nearby lymph nodes. A pelvic exenteration removes the same structures as in a radical hysterectomy plus the bladder, vagina, rectum, and part of the colon. Laparoscopic Surgery
Surgical treatment for endometriosis involves traditional or laparoscopic surgery to remove growth, scar tissue, or adhesions. Laparoscopic surgery is minimally invasive and associated with short recovery times. I n severe cases of endometriosis, a total hysterectomy is performed to remove the uterus, both fallopian tubes, and both ovaries. In some cases, just the uterus may be removed. You will not be able to become pregnant after a hysterectomy.
