Dental Examination
Routine cleanings are important to remove harmful tartar (calculus) and plaque to prevent dental and gum disease. Regular exams help catch problems early so they can be treated affordably, before they become bigger problems and more costly to treat.
X-rays
Even if you have dual insurance coverage between each spouse, our staff is happy to submit your dental insurance claim for you. Often this requires us to make copies of periodontal charts, dental x-rays or photos as required documentation so your claim can be processed without delay.
Oral Cancer Screening
We not only evaluate the health of your teeth, but also your jaw joint and your soft oral tissues (gums, tongue, neck, cheeks, lips) as part of an oral cancer screening. If any problem areas do exist, the doctor will discuss with you various options to treat those problems, and a well thought-out treatment plan is developed and prioritized. This treatment plan is extremely helpful to have so we can treat certain areas first so they don't become more costly to treat later, and at your request we are able to submit a "predetermination of dental benefits" to your insurance company, listing exactly what we plan to do. The insurance company will, usually within 2-3 weeks, send you an itemized listing of exactly what we plan to do, what our fee is, the portion they will pay and the portion of your co-payment --- so you can know everything upfront before treatment even begins.

Teeth Cleaning
Depending on your treatment plan, the Second Visit can vary. If there is a priority issue that needs to be addressed, this will be taken care of first, prior to having a cleaning with the hygienist. If there are not any higher priority issues, the hygienist will perform a dental prophylaxis (teeth cleaning) or periodontal treatment if recommended.
Fluoride Treatment
Children and Adults can benefit from topical fluoride treatment to make tooth structure more resistant to the destruction by acids produced by oral bacteria.
Dental Sealants
One of the most common areas for tooth decay (cavities) to occur is in the pits and grooves on the biting surfaces of the back teeth where harmful bacteria love to collect. Dental sealants are a smooth plastic coating that fills in those pits and grooves so the bacteria cannot collect onto the teeth, and thus sealants prevent this kind of tooth decay.

Unattractive teeth that are uneven or have spaces can be restored with bonded composites or porcelain veneers to achieve amazing aesthetic results.
Crowns
There are times when a tooth is too weak to be restored with a filling. Sometimes a crown (cap) is necessary to restore the tooth with a "protective umbrella" which holds the tooth together so weak portions do not break off later, causing potentially bigger problems.
Bridges
A fixed bridge typically uses crowns that are cemented on either side of a space from a missing tooth to "permanently" secure a false tooth. Until the advent of Implants, bridges were more commonly done to replace missing teeth. However, there are still times when a fixed bridge may be the best option to replace a missing tooth.

Despite an undeserved reputation, root canal treatment is a wonderful and comfortable way to avoid or get you out of pain from an infected tooth pulp and allow you to keep your tooth.

Dentures
RPD's are a very reasonable and cost-efficient way to restore someone's ability to chew by replacing multiple teeth with one removable appliance.

Dental Implants
Implants are often the best way to replace missing teeth since they do not require altering any other teeth, as with a fixed bridge. They also do not add extra bulk in your mouth as is often the case with a RPD.

Jeff Dick was born and raised in Irondequoit. At the age of five, he wanted to be a physician, but while having orthodontic treatment in middle school, he found it amazing how a set of crooked teeth like his could be gently and gradually moved through his jawbone to their proper positions. His orthodontist noticed and nurtured Jeff's interest in orthodontics by training and hiring him at the age of 14 as an orthodontic laboratory technician, making fixed and removable retainers and other appliances, and forming plaster models of teeth (dental casts).

General Dentistry
Despite a promising career and advancement at Kodak, Jeff had to follow his calling to dentistry, and was accepted in 1982 at the Case Western Reserve University School of Dentistry in Cleveland, Ohio, where he rediscovered the same awe and amazement in general dentistry that he had earlier experienced with orthodontics. He earned his doctorate in 1986 with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and decided to come back to Monroe County to practice general dentistry.
