UNPROFESSIONAL, DYSFUNCTIONAL, AND INCOMPETENT

NOT WHAT THEY USE TO BE



I was a customer of Uline since1990. In the past they had great products and service. My how times have changed.



On December 2, 2013 I brought my lawnmower mower to Uline and explained exactly what it was doing and how the primer bulb was not working. The owner (Jim) said he knew exactly what the problem was. He explained the carburetor was the problem and it needed to be replaced, not rebuilt, and he would order a new one that would take 2 weeks to arrive. He also explained that a new primer bulb was part of the new carb. He stated an estimate of $150.00 and I paid him a $40.00 deposit. After 1 month wet by, I called to check what was going on. They told me it not be worked on till spring.



On April 18, 2013 they called and told me it was ready. The bill came out to $192. !!! Despite the extreme charge, I paid the balance in full. On the itemized bill was a charge of $68 for a new carburetor. He brought my mower outside where I was waiting and the first thing I noticed was the old dirty primer bulb. He tried to start it for me. It wouldn’t start, even after several attempts. I asked him if that was a new carburetor and he said it was not, he explained it was a rebuilt kit. I reminded him what he said about how only a NEW carburetor would fix the problem, and he then stated, “Oh yeah, that’s a new carb”. He then pushed my mower back into the shop and told me they would call when its ready.



2 weeks later on May 3, 2013 they called me again to tell me it was ready. This time, instead of starting it in front of me, the mower was already running when he opened the overhead door and pushed it outside where I was waiting. He then tells me, if this doesn’t work, we’ll have to put a new carburetor on. I again reminded him that he said only a “new” carburetor would fix the problem, and all he could say was “it was rebuilt”. At that point, I was getting really tired and disgusted with dealing with the lies, so I brought the mower home assuming it was fixed this time. The mower now runs worse than it ever did before Uline worked on it. It still takes 8 or more pulls to start. But now after the $192 repair, it backfires & sputters and won’t restart when you shut it off.



I have since brought the mower to another shop where the mechanic verified that the carburetor I was charged $68.00 for, was in fact NOT NEW!!! He was able to get the mower running like new. He had to rebuild the existing carb to fix to damage caused by Uline, and install a new primer bulb which is part of the air filter housing.



Bottom line: $192.00 for services never received, $68.00 of which was for a new carburetor that they never even installed, 5 month wait, an unusable lawnmower that was better before they touched it, and a multitude of lies along the way.
