Obstetrics
Dr. Parsons joined the United States Army in 2009 and served a total of nine years on active duty service. While serving her country, she completed a traditional internship at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, TX. She then completed a second internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX, where she also served as chief resident. After residency, she served at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital in Fort Campbell, KY as staff obstetrician and gynecologist and was chief of the gynecology division.

The safety of our patients and their families are of the upmost importance to us at Cedar Rapids OBGYN Specialists. With this in mind, we have updated our ultrasound guest policy and will no longer be allowing any children under the age of 14 into the ultrasound rooms. The only exception is a baby small enough to be strapped into a car seat at all times. Staff will not be able to babysit and children will not be allowed to remain unsupervised in the lobby. This applies to the ultrasound rooms only. Children are allowed in all other areas of the clinic. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Thank you for understanding.
MRI
Our OB Gyns may be able to feel for large cysts or scars behind your uterus. An ultrasound or MRI may also be done by our team to check for ovarian cysts.

Hysterectomy
The uterus is removed through the vaginal opening. This procedure is most often used in cases of uterine prolapse, or when vaginal repairs are necessary for related conditions. During a vaginal hysterectomy, the surgeon detaches the uterus from the ovaries, fallopian tubes and upper vagina, as well as from the blood vessels and connective tissue that support it. The uterus is then removed through the vagina. However, if your uterus is enlarged, vaginal hysterectomy may not be possible.

Physical Therapy
Physical therapists often receive referrals from family or specialty physicians that have already evaluated the patient and determined a diagnosis. Patients then come to the clinic to be seen by a specialized physical therapist for that specific diagnosis. Iowa also has “direct access” for physical therapy as a specialty field. That means that patients are allowed to go directly to a physical therapist without a doctor’s referral. Patients should always check with their insurance company, however, to verify that their policy allows payment for direct access to physical therapy visits.

After an initial evaluation, we will determine an optimal treatment plan designed specifically for the patient. We have a variety of treatments available including biofeedback, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, pelvic muscle strengthening, and education / helpful tips. It is important to remember that it is never too late to seek the help of a pelvic floor physical therapist. Physical therapy is among the more conservative treatment options, but sometimes more in-depth treatments are necessary. Patients have both conservative treatment options and surgical options available all at one convenient location.
