        Shemwell's was the very first place I ever tasted BBQ in my life. I guess that was back about 1965 maybe earlier. We had come back down to Cairo from Indianapolis to visit my Grand Mother who lived on 8th Street and Poplar. My Dad loaded me into the car and we went to Shemwell's, I don't think I'll ever forget that. I really hope to be moving back that way from Phoenix AZ and God willing I'll get some more before I die.

        This one has potential but the service is lacking and the food is not that great unless you order the turkey sandwich which is good. The bbq is cairo style and you must develope a taste for it, those that have swear by it but to the newbie it might be a put off. The price is a bit high with small portions on the sides. Try at your own risk.
