About one of every 300 dogs and one of every 230 cats will develop diabetes mellitus during his or her lifetime. The disease can develop at any age, but most diabetic dogs are diagnosed between ages 7 and 10. Most diagnosed diabetic cats are older than 6. Obesity is a significant risk factor.

For pets receiving ongoing treatment using drugs such as NSAIDs, phenobarbital, prednisone or thyroid supplements, we require a twice-yearly Chem 10 lab test which, as the name suggests, measures 10 different chemistry levels in your pet’s blood to indicate liver and kidney function, blood sugar and protein levels. For pets taking Lasix or those already diagnosed with kidney disease, we add an electrolyte test panel.

We deeply appreciate the role Misty Eyes plays in fostering animal welfare in our community. Their mission is “to end the needless euthanasia of domesticated pets in Hendricks County,” and they work toward that goal using a multi-faceted approach that involves collaboration with local organizations, teaching responsible pet ownership and the benefits of spaying or neutering pets, and placing homeless pets in qualified foster and adoptive homes.

Laboratory Services
You can purchase heartworm preventives only by prescription from a veterinarian, and the prescription can be written or renewed only after a blood test to confirm your pet does not have an active infection of heartworms. Pets already infected with heartworms who receive preventive can have severe, life-threatening reactions to the dying, circulating larvae in their bloodstreams. That’s why the doctors at Brownsburg Animal Clinic will not prescribe or renew a prescription for heartworm preventives without a test.

The team you will be joining includes two full-time veterinarians, two part-time veterinarians and three regularly-scheduled relief veterinarians (seven doctors in all), four experienced RVTs, plus veterinary assistants and front-desk staff. The clinic is fully equipped with an Idexx in-house diagnostics laboratory, DR radiography and CR dental radiology. We recently completed a major clinic expansion and renovation project, allowing us to serve a growing number of patients and clients better than ever before.

With her course set on finishing an associate’s degree in veterinary technology, Williams landed her first job working with animals, serving as a kennel attendant and receptionist at a boarding and grooming kennel in Avon. After graduation and professional certification in 2010, Williams worked as a registered veterinary technician for three and a half years at clinics in Whitestown and Avon.
