General Info: Founded in 1986, Institute for Community Living is a nonprofit organization that serves individuals with mental illness in Brooklyn, N.Y. It is a 150-plus-bed residential program with over 1,200 housing units. The organization assists people with mental and developmental disabilities. Institute for Community Living serves more than 6,000 people in New York and Pennsylvania. Its services consist of site apartment programs for adults with serious mental illness and families where one parent has mental illness. The organization provides parent advocacy and family support programs, as well as clinical treatment services. Institute for Community Living also offers integrated substance abuse and assertive community treatments. It is recognized by the American Psychiatric Association.
