Sinusitis
Sinusitis is an inflammation of the mucus membranes lining the sinus cavities. Acute sinusitis is a short-term condition that usually responds well to antibiotics and decongestants; chronic sinusitis is characterized by multiple or continuous infections. Either medication or surgery is a possible treatment.

Thyroid
The NY Otolaryngology Group is one of the few private ENT practices in the New York region to have fellowship-trained surgeons on staff who specialize in head and neck surgery, as well as a micro-vascular reconstructive surgeon, to care for patients with cancers of the upper aerodigestive tract, salivary glands, and sinonasal cavities; endocrine conditions (including thyroid and parathyroid disease); and related lesions of the head and neck. At the Head and Neck Surgery Center we specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid disorders and other head and neck cancers in two locations in NYC.
Thyroid Cancer
The most common form is Papillary Thyroid Cancer, and it accounts for 60-70 percent of all cases, affecting more women than men. Follicular Thyroid Cancer is also common, accounting for 15 percent to 20 percent. This form also affects women more than men.

Ultrasound
In addition to a complete medical history and medical examination, procedures for a thyroid cancer diagnosis may include a blood test, ultrasound, and thyroid scan or the removal of cells from the tumor for examination under a microscope, also called a biopsy.
MRI
MRI – MRI stands for magnetic resonance imaging, and it is a computerized imaging technique that uses magnetic and radio waves rather than ionizing radiation (x-rays) to produce detailed images of the inside of your body. Detailed pictures of bones, tissues, organs, and internal body structures can be seen, allowing doctors to determine the presence of disease. MRI's can be used when you are pregnant to monitor the baby and are also used to help diagnose and monitor treatment for a variety of conditions. This kind of medical test is noninvasive and helps physicians diagnose all kinds of medical conditions. The produced digital images are able to be viewed on a computer monitor, where they then can be transmitted electronically, uploaded to a cloud server, burned to a CD, saved to a jump drive, or even printed.
Radiology
As recognized specialists in the diagnosis and treatment of sinus disorders in NYC, it is not surprising that many patients initially come to the New York Sinus Center for a second opinion on the radiology-driven sinus disorder diagnosis and recommendation. Fortunately for most of these patients, we often conclude that their long-term sinus health is best served by a non-surgical approach. However, we also have found that there are many instances where surgery was not recommended but clearly is the advisable solution for the patient in question. CT scans do not always reveal the true condition of individuals with recurrent infection and more severe sinus problems as their sinus complaints can be episodic in nature. It’s not uncommon for someone with unhealthy sinuses to have a CT scan taken at a time that will suggest otherwise.
X-Rays
Nuclear Medicine
The preferred method of testing for a hyperparathyroid and locating the over-active gland is a nuclear medicine isotope study known as the Sestamibi Scan. First developed in the early 1990s, this method of testing has proven to be the most accurate method of Parathyroid Disease diagnosis.
Computed Tomography
For instance, if an individual with generally healthy sinuses has a CT scan done during a cold or an allergy attack, the scan will show clogged and swollen sinuses and will be described as “diseased” by the radiologist. Several weeks after recovery, a followup scan would likely appear normal. If the original scan alone is used as the basis for deciding on treatment options, however, chances are that an unnecessary surgery will likely be recommended. Proper timing of CT scan following aggressive therapy is crucial.
Chemotherapy
The most common form of mouth and throat cancer is known as squamous cell carcinoma. In the head and neck, squamous cell cancer develops from the lining of the tissue, called the mucosa. In later stages of the disease, these tumors become invasive and can involve not only the soft tissues but also the jaw and other bones in this region. It is not uncommon for these cancers to spread regionally to the lymph nodes of the neck and sometimes even distantly to the lungs, bones, and other organs. Surgical procedures, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy are the most common treatment approaches to head and neck cancers, which may be curable. They may be used independently or in combination, whatever is most appropriate given the individual diagnosis.
Radiation Therapy
This varies on the extent and kind of surgery. In some cases this can be as short as days but in others it may take weeks, especially if radiation therapy is needed post-surgery. Dr. Krevitt will provide a normal range of expected recovery based on the amount of anticipated surgery and extent of disease.

Minimally Invasive Surgery
Modern, minimally invasive surgery should remove only severely damaged tissue enlarging the natural outflow tracts to the sinuses, leaving as much tissue and cilia in place as possible to regenerate normal tissue. Otolaryngologists – head and neck specialists – have found endoscopic surgery to be highly effective in restoring normal function to the sinuses. The procedure removes areas of obstruction, facilitating the normal flow cleansing of mucus.

Botox
What are Facial Fillers/Injections? Most commonly collagen â€“ a gel-like substance derived from purified animal tissue, and fat â€“ which is harvested from the patientâ€™s thigh or abdomen and then injected to plump up facial areas or â€œfillâ€ wrinkled areas (see also Botox). Facial fillers can also include calcium hydroxylapatite and hyaluronic acid. Ranging from a temporary to a long-lasting solution, facial fillers are administered through facial injections on specific areas of the face. There are various types of fillers available as each one is designed with one or several purposes, but a qualified professional can help you determine which facial injections are right for you. Depending on the individual and the number of areas being treated, filler injections can take about 10 to 20 minutes per session. Luckily, facial fillers donâ€™t require a large amount of downtime. Typically, directly following treatment patients can return to work and their normal activities, but this will vary depending on the individual and the type of injectable filler used. In some cases, for the first 24 hours after treatment, certain individuals will be instructed to refrain from excessive heat or sun exposure, and strenuous activities.

As part of the reconstruction from necessary surgical manipulation, micro-vascular reconstruction can minimize cosmetic and functional defects from surgery. In certain cases, plastic surgery may need to be delayed for three to six months in order to allow the body to properly heal.

Otoplasty
What is an Otoplasty? Also known as cosmetic ear surgery, otoplasty is a procedure to change the size, shape, and position of the ears. Maybe your ears stick out too far from your head, or maybe one or both of your ears are misshapen due to a congenital disability or an injury. With an otoplasty, deformed or protruding ears are able to be â€œpinned backâ€ by reshaping the cartilage. While an otoplasty is often performed on both ears to ensure symmetry, having this procedure done will not alter your ability to hear, and it will not change the location of your ears. Usually, after the age of 5, the ears have reached their full size, so an otoplasty, if necessary, can be done at any age after this. However, in some instances, an otoplasty surgery can be done as early as the age of 3. If a child is under the age of 3 and was born with prominent ears or some other ear-shape issues, these issues might be able to be corrected with the use of a splint. Especially if they are started immediately after the child is born.

Why Use Facial Fillers? Lesions
